well jsut over a week of owning the EL XR8 i had a fkn car accident.

my fault no doubt about it.

its insured for $6k agreed, the repair quote is $4800, not sure if she will be written off yet or not. i will find out over the next few days.

Right hand light and blinker are good. LH light and blinker smashed, bonnet, bumer, LH guard and radiator support pushed back a little too.

so sad....

they probably will write it off, they try to write everything off these days and never to be registered again,

also the reason the 8s arent really any quicker in stock form over the 6 is the weight of the 8 compared to the 6 and the power increase between the 2 engines isnt a great deal, do a decent manifold head and exhaust would be a different story though!

thanks for the offer Jarrod, i may hold off a little for now until i decide what i want to do, although i am a huge fan of the EL Ghia's!

she unfortunaltey did get written off. Shannons work so slow though, assessor was really good and called me first thing fri morning we discussed salvage price and how much it costs to fix etc, but bottom line financially it made sense to let her go. Plus i wasnt really that attached only had her for a week! they wanted $1,500 salvage price, which i think was too much consdiering she 'isnt reapriable'.

Someone OTHER then the assessor will call me to 'discuss pay out figure' on Wednesday. i didnt think it was so difficult, agreed value - total amount outstanding on insurance = pay out value! (esp since agreed value was agreed on 12 days ago!

anyway looks like my trusty ol ute sold too so its back to one family car... this will be interesting as i will be borrowing a friends car in the mean time but i sort of feel good not having so many cars lying around LOL.

ok so i have found out something very interesting in regards to my EL. not that i care because i got paid my money. After the assessor left the car, and after it got picked up from the smash repairer, the car some how got hit again.

After looking at pickles salvage auction website i came across the car with ALOt more damage then when i left it. I know it def. wasnt the panel beater as he is well known... so from when the towie picked up the car to when it got to the auction yard it looks like this now: (compare to picture a few posts up).

not sure whats going on... but maybe someone is trying to pull a dodgey... i was told it could also be a forklift that was used at the auction yard to open the bonnet... but i dunno.. what do you guys think??

Maybe that was the plan. To make it look worse than it actually is, so that a friend of an employee can purchase it with less competition.

yeah maybe... who knows... theforklift story makes sense though... but by the way the bonnet has crumbled looks like its had another front end impact...

Yeah it has crumpled but more pronounce in the centre, making me think they managed to hit a pole/tree or something pushing the bonnet back...but the intact front bar does not go well with that theory.

Has the airbags gone off? Or chasie damage? I had a car accident in my ghia and both airbags went off, no chasie damage but the bonent, bumper, fans, radiator and radiator support were finished, bought the car back and fixed it up after many months of breaking AAMI's balls to hurry up with paperwork so i can get the car fixed

at the auctions people would want to see the engine bay, looks like they just ripped the bar off and bent the bonnet to open up, both parts were rooted from the accident anyways

no chassis damage and air bags didnt go off.

i didnt see the car after they damaged it again so not sure if anythign else happened but the air bag is still in tact.

i dont understand why they needed to open it with a forklift if they did, bonnet still opened fine when the latch was on anyways...
