Alright...

I got the XR6 back from it's overnight stay at the transmission shop this afternoon and as far as I can tell in the short drive home, the problem has been solved. They replaced the inhibitor switch, the speedometer transducer and because the speedo drive gear was damaged, that was replaced as well.

The 'box shifts so smooth now in econ and power mode, it doesn't clunk into gear now. I tried manually shifting and it seems to be behaving itself. All this was done for $265. What a relief... so happy I didn't have to shell out for a major repair or even a new transmission.

I'm thinking about installing a trans cooler. Saw one on an XR6 wagon one time at the wreckers. But thats a project for the future.

I feel like a cold drink now. Might cruise up to the servo for a test drive.

Thanks,

Evan

PS: This took about 3 hours to write as I am watching American Hotrod! :D

Excellent news!

When you go to the wreckers, keep an eye on the cars with towbars. Ford generally fitted a trans cooler with the factory towbar.

lol Mine has a factory towbar too. Guess it's an exception to the generalisation too.

I know that Ford specified them to be fitted with towbars on the E-Series, I think its definitely a good idea. All mine with factory towbars have had them.

I guess some dealers wouldn't have bothered fitting them when they did the towbars, and some will have been fitted afterwards. I fitted a Factory bar to my NF because I knew it would bolt up.

Let us know how you go fitting the cooler! I'm about to fit one to our AU.

Aside from that, what do you think is next? I keep picturing your car with EB GT wheels :D

Some dark tint would look great.

So, today I went over to BenJ's to pick up the trans cooler. Was easier than I expected as the ED Ghia was mostly disassembled around the front. I only had to undo 2 hose clamps and it was freed. Then Ben showed me the T5 wagon and gave me some ideas for my own car. Was good to have a chat with a fellow e-series owner.

I'm planning on installing the cooler in the next couple of weeks.

I will take lots of photos when I do it for ya'll.

What's next? Um... some new tyres would probably be a good idea lol. And yeah, some dark tint would be pretty nice. The rear windscreen is starting to bubble. EB GT wheels would be good. I rather like mini-lite style wheels too. But, I think it will have the 5 spoke polished alloys for some time yet.

Anyways, washed it for the first time in I don't know how long. So, you can thank me for the rain we've been having. :D

Thanks,

Evan.

I quite like the factory alloys too, it looks like you just need some tyre shine.

While I'm here, I'll leave this link:

Superlites, looks like they do a 35mm or 4mm offset. I can't remember which is E-Series

HaHa, in fact I applied it after I took that photo. Only problem was that I only had enough for 1 and a half tyres. Doh...!

As much as I could do this afternoon.

For once I am happy that the Air con system is degassed. That way I can remove the receiver/dryer bracket without depressurising the system.

Thanks,

Evan.
