hi mate, congrats on the purchase but before you get ahead of yourself there are a few considerations.

P platers in VIC cant drive turbo/V8 or vehicles modified for performance so your most likely stuck with the 1600 for now as its the most powerfull engine originally fitted to that model of car (you should probably ring up and double check this dont just trust me) - but you can probably get some decent power out of the 1600 with an engine rebuild for high compression, a better cam and the twin throat webber (DGAF i think it is) and maybe some headers Without drawing too much attention to yourself - running gear wise a set of capri 2.8i vented front discs and a spacer kit will see you with marginally improved braking performance (you need to check your current calipers that they have type 16 /m16 / p16 cast onto them somewhere to be compatible with this upgrade) or snag yourself some MKII brakes (and whatever else you can get off the same car) - if its off a 2ltr or off a capri the rear drums will be bigger as well.

if your after some parts i have plenty i can sell you at reasonable prices :) and the internet is chock full of fairly simple upgrades for the escorts - just keep it simple as we are limited in AUS as to what modifications we can do and keep it legal without spending 5 digit numbers on engineering certificates

thanks, but i want to have a reliable car and the side draughts will always go out of tune, a sr20de with itbs will make good power with stock internals, and will leave most silvias in there dust  , do you know how much it would cost just to get it engineered?
thanks

depends on the engineer, some of them will insist you need to go throw thousands at workshops and hoppers stoppers before they will pass it, others will be OK with you doing all work and minimal suspension / brake upgrades, minimum cost is around $1500 for one or two consultations and the final cert max is $40,000 or more if the engineer decides he wants to do finite element analysis and or NDT and or fatigue testing on any custom engine/gearbox mounts you have to make

DCOE's are the sidedraft carbs, dgaf is a twin throat downdraft as fitted to 1600HC and 2.0l cars but as its a carb it will need periodic re tuning.

another conversion you should look at are the zetec/duratec engines as the zetecs will bolt up to the existing trans and there are conversion bellhousings avaiable for the duratecs (and they come in 1.6lt capacaties which may smooth over the engineering process) but these are slightly more troublesome as they are meant for FWD applications (unless you snag a late MX5 duratec4 engine). there are also the early MX5 1.6 and 1.8 engines which are RWD.

i seriously suggest you do a lot of googling and contact a VASS engineer (dont do the initial consultation untill your certain of what your doing and make sure YOU understand the rules otherwise youll get ripped off)

wow, that makes my budget seem a bit low
other wise id love to run a set of 45 delortoes i have :D
ive looked into zetecs bt just dont like them, the 16valve 4age with the 20v throttle bodies could be an option :)
im going to search up the vass right now , thanks :)

yep, your right the 20 valve toyota motor would be another good option, one of my mates put one of those in his sprinter, i think the most complicated bit was finding and mounting a dizzy to it (they are FWD so the dizzy is in a bad location) there are also RWD gearboxes that fit up to that motor.

pretty much. no performance mods allowed at all.
but if you dont drive like a d**k and draw attention to yourself and your car looks fairly stock and isnt to loud you'll be right ;)

i just went onto vic roads and they have a new rule where turbo or super charged vehicles with less then 100kw per tonne are legal after applying the car to vic roads :D, it dosent say anything about mods......

Does anybody know if the intake injection system from the ford ka endura-e engine bolts straight up to the head of the kent 1600 cross flow?
thanks

i see Google (or wikipedia) told you that the endura e is a development of the kent.

Not even close to being a straight bolt up, kent has round intake ports HCS and endura have rectangular ports, you could maybe fit the whole endura head to a kent block but after comparing the headgaskets for both engines

kent http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FORD-CAPRI-CORTINA-ESCORT-1300-1600-GT-HEAD-GASKET-SET-/110130537053?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item19a44aa25d

endura / HCS http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FORD-COURIER-KOMBI-1-3-ENDURA-HCS-95-HEAD-GASKET-SET-/130353283225?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item1e59a94099

it appears that they vary slightly in what i assume are the 3 oil return galleries between each cylinder and the pushrod holes - so maybe the whole head will fit (without getting into piston / combustion chamber differences)

also ive already checked the whole endure engine wont go in without custom engine mounts as it doesnt have mounting lugs for RWD mounts (being FWD and all) although the bellhousing patterns are the same - you could have a kent head port matched to the endura manifold OR have a kent block rebuilt with endura pistons and the oil returns modified to suit the endura heads chambers

luckily all kent motors share the same bore and only the stroke varies between each (not sure on deck heights)

otherwise this is a very good idea as the 1.3l endura motor makes as much power as a 1.6l kent

thanks, jose, im a bit of a noob at cars
i read it on another forum, because i was thinking of makeing a kent turbo 8-)
do you know of any fuel injection systems that would fit or require a small amount of modification to go on the standard manifold where the carby is?
thanks :)

you can get sidedraught style injection throttlebodies that go on webber/deltoro manifolds and run them with an aftermarket ECU, but these are hella expensive, you could make up something yourself with a couple of injectors and a modfied carby (use it for the butterflies).

i cant think of a "simple" way to fit EFI to the kent motor that doesnt end up very expensive (like injection throttlebodies) or doesnt require a lot of work (like making your own carby or getting the head modified to take an endura manifold) you MIGHT be able to find a CPI (centre point injection) throttlebody from a small engined EFI car that would fit the standard manifold and get it running with either the original ECU (probably hard to reprogram) or a megasquirt (maybe out of your depth).

try googling escort/cortina/capri kent EFI conversions from the UK - someone may have pioneered a simple way with OEM parts, just gotta hope those OEM parts are available here.

im interested converting my MKII 1300 escort to EFI so ill also have a bit of a look at whats available to do it cheaply (i was thinking modded carby with a pair of falcon injectors) and running a megasquirt
