Wooo! Fairmont owners rejoice!! Because of the way the bonnets are shaped (the raised section in the middle), only a small section of the bracing underneath needs to be cut for the engine to clear. No need to cut gaping holes into the bonnet!

Can you take a pic of the bracing when you have done it?

Sure man, no wories. Here's what i am going to cut out. I havn't worked up the courage just yet haha.

Image

These are the Pacemaker 4495 extractors that i bought to suit the BA DOHC, i was surprised at the different pipe routes compared to the SOHC 4499's and also surprised that the 4495's fitted straight in!

DOHC 4495's on the right, SOHC 4499's on the left.

Oooh oooh! More news! I'm getting a Haltech E11v2! I've been assured it will be able to control the VCT on my engine.

Now, as soon as i can figure out how to attach the bloody accellerator cables to the throttle, i'll be laughing.

Haha, yuss i have a dodgy stick-on bulge, very dodgy.....really! It's s**t haha

Dansedgli, to be honest it wasn't me that made the call it was the workshop that is going to do the instal, i thought i'd just shorten the story a bit haha. I did explain to the installer that it was VCT and that it doesn't work like VTec, but now you have brought it up i'll have to make double sure! Better to be safe than sorry :P

Okay just confirmed that there is a new software update for the E11 (v117) that includes the ability to program 2 VCT actuators.

Can the ECU sense the position of each cam?

Fair enough if it can move them but what good is it if it doesnt know where they are?

Oil temp, thickness, rpm all has an effect on the cam position so setting them up to move with a fixed pwm duty cycle wont be very effective.

Okay    , just rang Haltech direct over east and they did confirm that the E11 will control dual vct.......just not the BA    .

Guess i'm going to have to wait for Atomic to release their vernier cam gears :x

Better you know now than after you pay for it. :)

You dont want an autronic? They require you to cut 3 teeth off of each cam but that doesnt look hard.

Isnt that the point of having a BA engine? VCT? (not being rude/smartass.. just curious)

the vct doesn't actually do that much for performance. it delivers some lower end torque but it is mostly there for exhaust valve overlap to help control emissions etc. Ive driven several ba's with the vct disconnected and the stll drive fine. and if you get the cam gears from atomic you can lock them in place and you really wont feel the difference.

Im still working on getting the vct to work in mine mostly because i want the bragging rights lol. But if i cant it doesn't really bother me if i loose some loser end torque, my garret 35/40 will make up for it :D :D :D

If your ECU has an output you can set at 3000 rpm then just do what the AU VCT does and drive them hard below 3000 and off after that.

Yair, i can't wait till this is finished, im having major accelleration withdrawls, the 2.4L Rodeo just issn't cutting it haha.

But as far as wiring goes, if i can get these cam gears, it's going to make thing's sooooo much simpler. It seems theres alot of ECU's out there that will control VCT, just not BA DOHC VCT.

Theres several advantages to having a BA DOHC engine, for starters the engine is so much newer, better balanced, coil on plug and twin cams and 24 valves so it breathes better (better for turbo applications) to name just a few improvements.

Might have a go at cutting out the bonnet today, and make up a bracket for the accellerator cable.

An XF throttle body and bracket will make things easier.

I was using the XF t/b and an EA-ED throttle cable. Not sure how it would go with the cruise control though.
