Next plan of attack is to scrub and degrease the engine bay and start masking off whats not to be painted. The loom on the left hand side of the engine bay cannot be poked back into the cabin which is annoying, so i'l have to bunch it all up in a placky bag so as not to get paint all over it.

Then i'll start on the engine. I'm not going to take the sump off, i'm getting a bloke i know who owns a fab shop to drill out the casting in the sump and we'll just flush it out with oil. I also need to get the hole in the front of the inlet manifold welded up (where the butterfly rod passes through) and also have the heater pipes made. Other than that, pretty smooth sailing from here.

In regards to bolt removing tools sometimes 10 year old kids are great cause they are really flexible. I once had a injected Gq patrol and the only way to get number 4 spark plkug out was to throw him in engine bay hang onto his ankles and let hin twist that ratchet to his hearts content. Give him $5 and hes happy and i have no scrapped knuckles cramps etc.

Love this thread would love to do but I reckon electronics are the work of the devil.

No project ever seems like it's worth it until you get to enjoy it, and i say enjoy it as a car project is never really finished is it?

Cheers

Lulz! Love your methods fezlane.

Well, it's nearly the big day, engine bay is all masked up and ready to go. Towtruck will be here tomorrow at about 9am to pick up the car and off to the panel shop for a new lick of paint.

Painting should be done within a couple of days, hopefully my masking up will have saved a bit of time.

Goodbye basecoat red...

Looks good man, but almost sad at the same time as it looks like all your progress has been undone. We all know that when all the gear goes back in it will be looking sweeter & tidier than before, so it will be worth it!

Cheers

Well, car was towed this morning and work was commenced literally straight away, all the surface rust has been sanded back, all the spot welds from the battery tray have been welded up too. Painter reckons i will have it back wednesday.

Wooo! Painting has been completed, went and had a look at it today and all i can say is that it is jaw droppingly good. Mind you, new paint always has that effect. Towtruck couldn't pick it up today, so will be done tomorrow morning.

Also tomorrow, engine is heading in to have the turbo oil return tapped into the sump and i have figured out what i'm doing with the heater pipes, so i'll have them made up too. Full steam ahead.

Pics up tomorrow!

Righto, pictures as promised, although a little belated. Spent all last night working on the engine, but apart from a couple of small things it's pretty much good to go. Pretty happy with the progress so far.
