Unfortuenately there's no warraty with this kinda stuff (second hand parts), so the seller would have to be a fine upstanding bloke to give you any sort of recompense - as he doesn't have to do anything at all.

Sucks, he's not providing any sort of help, me thinks he knew it was dodgy beforehand, that makes it worse, but still leaves you with no recourse.

Yeah, I just asked him to talk about it. I wouldn't mind some of the $300 I spent on it to even get it to the point where it could be put into a car. He said it "had almost new oil in it" and I say "so what, that just means you or someone else has drained the old metal fillings out and sold me a hunk of crap with fresh oil in..."

Never mind. It is in the car and I am very happy with having a gearbox to kill. Happy with that, honestly. Would be a lot happier if the guy who sold it to me would front up a lousy couple of hundred so I could put it towards buying second and third gears!

Just about drove out to ya work today. Figured you'd like to try it with a clutch.... Just took the neighbour for a burn and he was goofing off. His mates all have turboed up Cefiro driftie wannabe ricers (you know - the motors Holden should use, but don't...) He was like "mate, that sounds better than an RB30 or whateva". "Mate, are you really in fourth doing 600rpm up this bloody steep hill at 30km/h without stalling?" "Mate, I know you just said we hit 110, but...." "Mate, the only thing about wagons is the back fills up with smoke." "Mate, those tyres smell good burning, what sort are they?" "Mate, my mates turbos are wicked, but this has all that down low and.... F**k... you don't need to turbo this thing mate...".. "Mate, imagine turboing this f**k thing". "F**k mate".

And other s**t like that.

Must admit I do know the road and could get it stepping out with the auto on those corners anyway, but the whole spinning it up for fifty metres out of a corner just sounds a lot nicer with a manual.

And it's not just me. He asked if the gearbox was cheap when idling along in second... He's just a young hoon really, but I expect him to be buying Ford in years to come....

Hi Tony

You remember I told you to get a new clutch kit?

I had a real nasty clutch action on one of my cars I forget which one (HQ I think) and a new kit and levers fixed it up real nice.

Have you got it working nice now?

Yeah yeah, you guys and your expensive clutches...!

No doubt the clutch is part of the problem... Particularly slapping around in reverse...

The box is still dicey. It may last years, or it may fall apart if I drive it too hard for a few weeks. Who knows... I don't have the money or inclination to pull it out and start working out what is up with the gears. It isn't that bad really... Probably just a couple of teeth here or there with a surface roughed up or similar.

I could be being very fussy... Guess that without a brand new TKO you cannot expect that much. Let's face it, twenty year old box in a 15 year old car, it's not going to be real tight and noiseless --- especially with the debatable clutch.

Cheers Rick old bean, how is that Monty Wagon coming along?! My fuel bill and rear tyre bills are skyrocketing.

Exactly the correct fluid to run in a T5. Any other oil makes them real hard to change.

Here it is, CLOCK SPRING PICTURES!

;)

Attachment:
cccc.jpg

Yay... --- I ignored Datas advice and did it anyway, with varying success. Will get back to you about that sometime after it's been in the car for a long journey. Initial results not bad, but not perfect. Probably more the limitations of the cruise control system than errors in my system...

Cunningly title CCCC, this contraption is now installed and operating. Interestingly (?!) I still don't have a clue what the the original system did in factory supplied manuals. Have had different reports from different people...

The idea of ripping apart the clockspring and cruise functions to see how it all worked allowed this idea to form... I didn't want cruise turning off every time I pushed the clutch in to change gear. Let's say you've got cruise on and you're in fifth doing 80 and you hit a hill. You want to change down to fourth, but that turns off cruise so you have to drive up the hill and turn it on again at the top.

Not any more.

No? No. Really? Yes really.

You may think it's dumb, or just think differently. It works, so there. I'd like to get it engaging the "neutral switch" on the gearbox so I can start the car in gear with clutch in too... That's a whole new ball game.

Is doing some slightly odd stuff at the moment, can't quite work out why it varies as you use it in different situations, but it does work as planned most of the time. I think the cruise computer isn't fast enough - occasionally the rev's go up and occasionally you have to hold your finger on the steering controls a little longer than you normally would. Can't offer myself advice on this... That's as complicated electrically as I can get.

PS - This also assumes that you don't have a clutch switch as per factory installed manual...!

NZEA - Sorry about calling you YEAHDUDE. I was trying to be funny. Sorry man. At least I used a quality auto oil huh?! I reckon it'll be right mate. Just don't tell everyone

No worries Mr Bean. You da man.

Wonder if anyone's going to comment on that contraption? Snap, Krytox and Databat will roll in their respective graves seeing it I woulda thought. Am going to start watching that Mr Asia crud about that NZ fella who sold a few tinnies over the Tazzie for a month or two back in the day. Seems like its full of s**t, but they got some of the names right at least. Ah well. Nighty nighty matey patatee. Thanks for your help once again, couldn't have got that drive shaft in without you...

Although, without me you'd be in hospital with a broken back since it was caught about an inch above yourself...

Although, without me needing your help you'd have not been under a falling driveshaft...

Although....... Here's where Fiend hits himself in the face, hard.

I was going to mention how you're deliberately bypassing safety features and my general low opinion of such activities.

But I knew you already would know what I felt, so decided not to, that is until now when you asked for it anyway.

That and you're a crazy bugger that would do it anyway.

Must have something to do with these little oddities Image

Heh, now you're just being high and mighty. Just because I pulled a soldering iron out too! Sorry, must be something in the water.

I asked for your opinion originally way back on page 13 or 11 or 14 or something of this thread, and thought you wouldn't have changed your mind, but may warm to the idea if you'd known I'd tried it and it works okay.

I AM NOT BYPASSING ANY SAFETY FEATURE.
The automatic doesn't have a clutch switch to begin with, so having this installed is MORE safety than not having anything there at all...

Ho hum. Thanks for the thoughts Data. Those little fella's you mention are a marketing gimmick. I grew up with the Smurfs.

Mate, I just drive it from the inside. Never see the outside, myself. Apart from when I get others to drive it up the road and back just so I can hear certain creaks and groans and see how things compress around corners etc etc.

Would love an ETA on the rest being done. I just went and got a cheap spray setup, but still need a regulator for that and my airbrush... This means that I could start pulling door linings off and doing all the little bits that are niggly hidden things. Thinking about finding a complete front right LTD or LANE panel with the light in it and painting the whole thing. Current panel has been repaired by myself and no one notices, but I do...

Hell, until recently anyone suggesting I'd have pride in a car to that extent would have had an earful and thwack in the noggin. Nowadays I look at other peoples EF's and chuckle at the lack of care and effort they put in.

I'm turning into an EF snob.
Image
Beat this - BENJ would be proud......

Went the long way around the bays today (purely science --- to test the CCCC, above - not because I like driving the car again or anything...) .. Came up behind a EVO IV with three kids in it. Lowered, black, nice graffix, fat wheels, huge exhaust, nice engine noise, big blow off valve... You get the picture - Sixteen grands worth of late 90's Mitsi sitting on the road in front of me with its hazards going. He was doing all of 10 or 20km/h. Figured he was test piloting some new install too. I've seen that sort of odd behavior before. (Me)

Seen me coming behind him and he launches it into this hairpin left hander. I just knew he was going to do that, so was already in first and went around corner at 5,000rpm with smoke pouring off tyres and we both hit second gear at same time. Believe it or not he didn't back off and neither did I. I got my nose beside him before hitting third and actually got in front before fourth kicked in and... Well.... I was well happily in front before having to touch the brakes to settle the car into an off camber sweeping right hander. Mate, I've driven a couple of fast Evo's, and they are quick and nimble, can't deny that. But this guy was trying his best and it just wasn't happening for him. Futurlane needs some tuning and a new bottom end!

There was these three young twenties kids leaning out the windows giving me the fingers and making rude motions and all sorts. I pulled over and let them catch up and started a donut in front of them, so when the donut finished I was behind them. Then I saw the guys girlfriend was more interested in Fords than Mitsi's all of a sudden. The look on the face was oh so priceless.

Another ricer lover converted. That's two in two days.
