The first bit of the ULTIMATE BUDGET build is ready for viewing. The most expensive bit of this whole thing (thus far) has been the slotted and dimpled disks... At $350NZ per for front and $250 for rear. All prices are in NZ dollars from this point on (NZ peso as it is known on this side of the ditch...)


Not sure about this, but am going to put the new pictures at the front of this thread by editing this message and posting new photos within it.


Am still working on the paint (obviously) and a whole heap of interior stuff as well as having a go at what's in the engine bay. In fact, I didn't intend to do all this computer work today, as I should be head down and a*** up in the engine bay sorting out my air intake. I am dead set against having to chop holes in the bonnet, but may do one vent to let hot air out from the position above cylinders 4 and 5 in cavity between air flow manifolds and shock tower... In other words - right around the black plastic piping that tends to heat up to about 50 degrees externally...

Ah bugger - There I go again - Talking too much when I should be down my mates garage actually testing and doing..!

Right - Without further ado, here is the

Coming soon (ish) will be exterior scene, interior scene. The exterior and interior are far from finished so may do something on showing you them over the weekend and then totally update it when more progress made. Ho hum...

I still ain't anywhere near being able to afford a paint job - That may have to come in the FUTURLANE I WON SOME MONEY BUILD.


Cheers to my good old mate the Butler at His XLNC's residence, Geoff Bloody Baylis. It's his garage I have been using as my rented one isn't big enough to open the car doors and it's been raining constantly for about a month! This also means that he get's the privilege of working on a Ford (usually after about three hours of nagging from me, or when he feels obliged to when I do some building work around the place...)

He also happens to have helped put various turbos and superchargers onto other peoples cars in the weekends, so that is definitely a step up from me who has never successfully kept a motor alive for over a year of ownership.

Sorry, but that interior and dash are just horrid. Not my scene at all. But you've put a decent bit of effort in there and it does look well done, if that's how you like it then all's good!

The bushes on the rear swaybar are not Nolathane. They are Whiteline (who are now owned by Nolathane though, but wouldn't of been when that bar was originally made) - Nolathane are red, Whiteline are yellow.

BTW - what's with the wierd shaped photos?

Holy crap batman. Once again, I am bowing in your presence. I said NOLATHANE purely because I didn't know what the hell they were, but they don't appear to be Prothane or Rubber. I actually do think this setup is an original Whiteline from the late 90's. And I got it for $9. Thanks to everyones advice I knew what I was looking for - just glad the quote I got from the suspension specialist for $380 was out of my range on the day as it was the day before payday, not the day after! Hewhehehehe...


WHAT WEIRD SHAPED PHOTOS?

The handling of the wagons in stock form is total crap, yeahp. No worse than an old Holden from the late 70's tho... Which is what I learnt to drive in.......

Now that car always ran on 5 cylinders... Ended up taking the plug out of the cylinder that didn't work and running it for another 50,000. It had air con too --- If you put your foot on the brake you would shave your boot on the road - had rusted so badly that you had to rest your foot on the wall of the footwell, not the bottom or front. You got real wet feet in the rain... Etc etc etc.

Okay dude - I am off to do something about getting some photos of my doors and my air intake (which I have not made yet, as have wasted all day sitting looking at this damn blue screen...)

Uhm - Yeah... NYLOC's have a little bit of nylon, like a washer in them that means they operate like a lock nut or it's more like using a lock-tite glue or something in the thread to stop them undoing themselves with vibration or load differences.


Goddam, I should be able to think of a joke or something about raising the IQ of both countries, but I honestly can't think of one.

Besides which, the NZ cash they give you for working over here isn't worth it.

Thankfully NZ still has A.C.C.

Yeah I know but is that all thats holding the U-Bolts, they're not known for their high shear strength afaik.

Ahah... Would it help if I mentioned that the U-Bolts are 12mm diameter (a lot fatter than original) and that the nuts also have spring washers and that this set up is about 4 times stronger than what was on the car new from factory?!

What would you suggest to use instead? Am open to all input on that front... Don't want things going pear shaped on me.

And Aussie wouldn't let me in, otherwise I'd be there too.

Just bought some new wheels as a celebration of making progress. $450 with tyres that should last for a few months until I get some money for more.

Wheels are 17 x 7.5... Tyres are 235 x 45 x 17... Am off to find that calculator to see if I need to change the speedo pickup....
