Hello everyone, Just attempted the repair as detailed by an earlier post (much, much earlier). I hope it has turned out as it should? :o I took off the leather covered lever head and screwed in the 2x 19mm self tapping screws 7mm from the edge as outlined in the diagram. I also inserted the 2 foam earplugs as suggested in the 2nd and 4th slot. Now the silver plastic button that used to move in and out as you depressed it to change gears is permanently pressed in. It does the job, however I am wondering if this is how the fix is meant to end up? Or have I done something wrong as the silver button will not move at all. Also is this harmful to the transmission in any shape or form? I would appreciate any feedback from other Ford lovers that have done this same repair.

Cheers, Boonie :? :?

did you pull & hold the button out as you wound the T-bar onto the shifter handle thread?

also could be that the screws arent sitting in the channels of the button and are pinning it down instead

FordFairmont, Once I had taken off the leather covered head and screwed the 2 screws in place they were permanantly fixed. They would not allow the silver button to move at all. Maybe the thickness of the screws were too thick? I am not too disappointed as long as it doesn't cause any problems with the transmission having the button permanently pressing against the selector mechanism.

looks like one or both screws are pressing against the channels under the button

i guess youll just have to have a look which screw/s are fouling and redrill another hole, also use thinner screws
