I got us a new Mondeo not so long ago as the new family car as the missus was driving around in a Hyundai Accent. She's due to pop with our 1st bub together pretty soon. I won't have my kid being driven around in a crappy Hyundai!

I wasn't going to bother opening a new thread in here for it, but today I did the first mod on it, so figured it is now worthy. In these cars, the ecu is mounted to the airbox and restricts quite a bit of flow. There's a guy over east who has designed a spacer for the ecu so it sits flush with the wall of the airbox, yet still has enough airflow going over it to keep it cool. It cost $50 delivered, so I figured I'd try it out. He's dyno tested it and it made gains of 5kw and 13nm through the rev range. Not a bad bang for your buck mod. She should be around 116frwkw now! Haha.

Next on the list will probably be a Bluefin tune. For around $1200 you get a generic tune which breathes a whole lotta extra life into the car in standard guise along with warranty that runs alongside the Ford warranty. If damage is deemed to be caused by the tune which Ford won't cover because of the tune, the supplier will repair it under their warranty scheme.

The Aussie supplier is here in the west too, which is handy. :)

I don't have any pics of it yet. I should go steal some from carpoint.com or something as she's dead stock.

Here's a quick pic I took with the phone before the missus went to work. Phone quality sucks...

The XR5s only come in manual... 6 speed goodness!

The interior is awesome. So comfortable and quiet. All the bells and whistles. No key in the ignition, just need the key fob in the car and press the start button. For space, its barely any smaller than the Falcon. You can fit 5 adults in there in comfort and it's quicker than the i6. It's good on fuel too, while it's not on boost, that is.

They feel like they are being held back off the line in 1st and 2nd, but hit 3rd and it really pulls hard. I'd like to take it out with my car and see how it goes from a rolling start at about 3 grand in 3rd but the missus won't have a bar of it. I'd be a bit worried about coming up against a Focus XR5 with a tune on the roll. Guys are doing low 13s in them, launching from 2nd!

I like the "Kinetic" design across the whole Ford range.

perhaps "lilmited" in 1st/2nd to minimize wheel spin considering the power she has and being FWD.. and turbo!!!

Jeff, I don't think this car would ever make it to the track. The missus would go off her head at me if it were to happen. But hey, what she doesn't know won't hurt her, I guess :D

I'm taking it up to Geraldton this weekend, so I'm pretty keen to see how well it likes the long trip and how good on fuel it is. Also how comfortable it is on the long run. It's about 400km or so each way. Hopefully I'll be able to fit the 3 swags in the boot and there'll be 4 of us heading up, so she'll be loaded.

I haven't had the opportunity to take any pics as yet. I've been leaving for work at 6 and getting home about 8. I'll try on Sunday after I get back and give it a wash, if I'm not too tired.
