cheers.

yeah there are holes behind the badges.

I just got a hammer with a rounded end and lightly hit right on the hole to make an indent then filled with bog and sanded smooth, also put a bit of bog on the other side of the holes just for added strength.

Pretty easy to do really, makes it look heaps better

Well today i got bored and decided to remove the throttle body from the BBM and polish the insides up after reading a doco on here about it.

I did mine different to the doco, all i did with mine is just cut it back starting with 800grit wet and worked my way up to 1500grit wet then polished and it turned out great.

Butterfly after:

Friday, i got the motor out had a lil trouble with the torque converter bolts but nothing a little muscle couldn't fix. The engine bay is a mess greasy dirty muck everywhere needs a really good degrease and a wash.

Ill be moving onto the engine in a few weeks when Ive got some cash to get a engine stand and finally get to work on the timing case.

Ill also be painting a lot of the brackets and other stuff black so it all blends in with the block when its also painted black Ill make sure i take heaps of pics when i do this. I'm also thinking of painting the timing case black so pretty much everything from the bottom of the head down is black so it all blends together. Not sure about the head and BBM might spray them silver but something that wont stand out too much as the rocker cover is what will draw your eyes.

Ill get some pics of the empty bay and motor as it looks at the moment, nothing special but i have a lot of work on my hands mechanical and body work.

cheers

i like where you are going with this. how are you prepping the panels etc? do you have a sand blaster?

i like the colour choice and i think it will confuse people when the EF/EL conversation comes up. i too dont like the EL front or trail lights

How is she rust wise?
This is just proof that the Falcon is an awesome car. I know a bloke who has an Au and has not changed the oil in over 200,000km's and it still keeps going. Sometimes its the hidden cancer that can grind a hault to these bargain buys, that why I asked.
Go the EF Fairmont tails too, I have to replace the beaver panel on my ef mont thanks to a prado and was also going to debadge it leaving the chrome spear as the only badge. Thanks for the pic, its reassured me its going to look great when done

Thanks for the responses.

I'm just sanding everything back with 80grit sandpaper on a wizzy (air sander) then going over with bog if need be then to 180 grit all the way to 320grit then prime. no sand blaster.

The only spots that have major rust are the sills both sides, on the outside sills there are a couple spots there that need to be cut out and have either newer sills welded in place or just a piece of sheet metal shaped and welded in. The roof had a couple small bits of surface rust, there are also a couple small bits in the door jams.

Mainly the car has small shopping trolley dents on the doors, there were a few on the front quarters but was able to pick up 2 very neat mint condition ef/el front quarters no rust or dents.

All the dents get rubbed back with 80grit then bogged up, sanded smooth then a very light layer of fine grade bog, sanded smooth again and primed.

The rear still needs work to get it straight but I'm slowly getting there, its just a lot of work to do and the weather we have been having lately really not motivated to get out there and work on it (cold and wet)

The De-badge was easy to do really and its gonna look tops, I'm happy that Ive got a whole EF front end cheap as chips $120 for the lot, just waiting on good condition boot lid and rear bumper.

The sills are going to wait till Ive got most the body work completed and the engine bay is close to being prepped so i can get the sills welded up then re-prime everything so its all smooth and has enough layers of primer, i will be wet sanding the primer so its nice and smooth for the paint, It will be a full respray including:
Door jams
Under bonnet
Under boot lid
The insides of the doors
Engine bay
Pretty much anywhere that has green on it will be red, and anywhere that has crappy brown or black will be matte or gloss black, including wheel wells under the front quarters and engine brackets, Calipers will also be colour matched to the car.

Everything will kinda tie in together in some way.

Thank you for finding this interesting and hope you all keep an eye on this as things will be coming along soon as i now have a bit more time on my hands.

Small update from today's efforts in the engine bay.

I got straight into it this arvo, grab a piece of 80Grit and rubbed back the areas i was going to bog up, I didn't get any before pics just during and after. The first 2 pics is of the bog on the area im smoothing out.

Image
Image

The second lot of pics is from the last sand back of bog. After sanding it i had to even it out more so I applied more bog then sanded it back again smooth with 80grit then just to 180grit.

Image
Image

Now the last lot of pics is of the finished product all primed up, though not finished still have some more sanding and bogging to do.

Now all i have left to do is sand and bog up the other side and finish sanding the rest of the engine bay and prime it all up, Paint the K-Frame Gloss Black again make it look like new and maybe paint the bay or leave it till I have more paint.

Hope you guys like, positive comments are welcome.
Cheers

That's a different mod, smoothing the engine bay joints! It should look pretty darn tidy when it's all painted up.

I'm thinking of doing some more on the strut tower and sides of it, make it all very smooth.

Thinking of paint choice for this now, im thinking of Regency Red with a bit of Orange pearl mixed through to make it pop in the sun, something a lil different.

Also i have got a newer boot lid and rear bumper so now it looks like a car again

Well its been a while since my last update, not a whole lot has happened, just painting block and sump and engine bay. I have received a full head gasket kit with all gaskets needed.

Next things Ill be ordering are new outer sills and a 2.5" redback exhaust system, Ive been trying to find some pacie 4480's a lil cheaper than new on eBay but not much luck.

Last week I picked up 6 pursuit rims 5 for the EL and 1 for my ED as a spare. Im still looking for some pursuit caps now.

Also mocked up the rear end to make sure everything fits, removed the towball but the rest is still there. The colour is Isuzu Tornado Red.

Here are some pics of the painted bits.

I now have a EF bonnet latch.

Got a few other things on the list to tick off, fluids, hoses, cooler thermostat, and most of all battery and exhaust.

Ill have to save up for the best part of all, The primer, paint and clear... :D
