I dont know how it stretches, but somehow it did. Skipped a few teeth and went all bendy on the valves.

i doubt it would have skipped a tooth on the chain, i would lean more towards old soft valve springs, at that rpm i bet the valves were floating and started making love to your pistons..lol

Well valves did kiss pistons. Haven't pulled down the busted 5L to look at what was the cause yet.

Could it have been a bit of detonation ?

old fuel system / ignition etc just stuff we wouldn't think of in our minds could have "failed"

It's definitely bent valves. It lost all compression. The new motor wont be seeing north of 6krpm any time soon

Series 1 EB's are not as they/Ford had not realised the need for a limiter at that point of time, some of the ECU's carried over into EB S2 without a limiter as well.

Even my old 5 speed I6 S1 EB had no limiter, made it interesting with alot of boost, was hard to catch it sometimes.

Funny my S1 xr8 bounced off the rev limiter when we were fixing the box issue on her. She is a September 1991 car.

No lols. The car should be running with a new motor tomorrow night. Pretty sure I've discovered the cause of all the issues......

So the new motor took longer than expected. The f**k thing STILL won't start hot. I'm close to parking it in the naughty corner for a bit and grabbing a Gumtree special daily....

So, still haven't nutted out the hot start issue, but I'm loving driving this.
