Fitted the ECU supplied by Paul (SCW) and so far things seem to be better. Rach reports the gear shifts are smoother and even starting is better. Up to the installation of this ECU, the car was real hard to start from mildly warm. I was going to look into that problem after the gear shifts but it seems to have been ECU related as well. Will continue to monitor (and drive it myself) over the next couple of days to confirm but things are looking up....thanks Paul! :)

Cheers
RD

No need for sorry matey, just great that you had the ECU available. I will probably have the car all day Thursday or Friday to fit the BEM, hopefully to get to the bottom of the ariel etc gremlins. If all goes well with both items, we will need to talk $$$$'s :)

Cheers
RD

Well, the blue beast threw a curve ball today. With the front end of my wagon apart I have been using the car all day. Went up to get Rach from work and half way home the brakes all but disappeared!!! The little brake fail light on the dash is alight too. I did a quick roadside check but nothing showed itself. I just nursed it home (with the whole family onboard no less!) and parked it.

So now we have 2 cars out of action - mine with no front suspension and this one with no brakes. Gonna be a busy car weekend me thinks. Anyway, off to continue putting my car back together - diagnosing this cars problems will have to wait until that is done :(

A very pi$$ed off RD.....

Sounds like it could be the master cylinder RD. That is the only thing I can think of to cause the brake fail light to come on.

Unless it is ABS related.

I dare say it would be as you said relating to master cylinder or even possibly vacum related. ABS hmm I don't know wouldn't still have a decent pedal?

Thanks guys

I was thinking booster/master cyl. There is brakes, pedal is soft as and half to 3/4 to the floor. I have a couple of master cyls here and an ED steel booster. In the light of day tomorrow I'll check each wheel for leaks although the reservoir is at the same level as it started with. Oh, and if it was ABS related, wouldn't the ABS light be on?

The cylinder might not leak even if it is gone, the channels inside can block up, and they fail in other ways too. Shouldn't be too hard to change it over if you have spares.

Hmmm, interesting... me thinks a cylinder change right off the bat may be the way to go......

Master Cylinder is bypassing.
It has the symptons. No obvious fluid leak but the fail light activating due to low pressure and no pedal.
Change the master cylinder for sure.
Dunno if an ED one will fit but. I know the boosters are different between them are the cylinders?
