 Wouldn't get up my driveway or negotiate those speed bumps in shopping centers. Like the idea though......

just a quick warning if you ever get in a crash in this car because you have moved the airbag sensor which is callerbrated to fire the bags at exactly the right time down to the millisecond you may and probaly will die or be seriously injured as well as this the crumple zones are different in all the models although they appear the same they are different so just be warned

im sorry but what qualifications do you have to say that im a smart a*** 19 year old have you everdone any research on airbags as part of my corse is a one week training on them there fireing systems aswell as repacking them after ten years it was just some advise to him no need to get snappy

but your having a go at him for moving a sensor, when the car you drive doesn't even have airbags, so if they were soo good you would be driving a car with one
the difference between an EB and EL is pretty much airbags, there are plenty of cars around who have had the airbags removed maybe if you dont want people back chatting you, you should look at a nicer way to inform people about it not being a smart a** about it people fit lokkas and spooled diffs, and non complianced seats and boost and below legal tyres, i somehow thing this is more dangerous then moving an airbag sensor |

Now, now boys.....
 I am going to be removing the airbag system anyway, haven't been able to mount the front sensor to my satisfaction. I just have to get a steering wheel cover for when I remove the drivers airbag...... Cheers RD

But talk of crumple zones back then (and now) added to the decision to pull them out altogether. More bits to sell I suppose

also it not a matter of his car has airbags and mine doesnt air bags are good but if it fires too late it can snap you neck or be like hiting a brick wall as the bag fires so quickly that by the time you start moving from the inertia the bag has already started to deflete thus giving its cusioning effect imagine if your head started moving towards the bag then it went off they go off that quick it will easly snap your neck because it pushes on your head i was not being a smart a*** i was just expersing concern

I heard a similar thing from another user so was going to remove them anyway. Your info cemented the decision. As an aside, I think the post that generated all of this was about rear suspension airbags.... but that is another story

Not sure I understand.. the basic shells of the EA - EL are the same, only radiator support and a couple of other cosmetic differences.. wouldn't the crumple zones be nearly idenical?
If you think about it, the bag is supposed to go off in time to arrest your forward momentium..... so unless you screw it up really badly and it doesn't go off till after you come to a stop... how could it be worse than not having one? Put it another way.. I probably weigh a good bit more than you.. in a crash my top half would be moving with more force and speed than yours as a result... but an air bag can only explode at one speed and it doesn't know my (or your) weight.. so how can it know at what point to be inflated for both of us? As far as the air bag is concerned. it's job is to go off as close as possible to the impact time to make sure it's there when the persons head is going to need it.. they can't time it to the microsecond simply because they can't account for the differences required by people's weight (and height would make a big difference to the timing too) As for the front bar and rebar which are both plastic.. neither would cause the driver to be thown forward hard upon collision.. the serious kenetic engery problem would occur when the front metal impacted... and thats when the airbag should go off and if you had your air bag sensor there... that is when it would go off. Put another way.. I can buy a legal bull bar for my EL that completely replaces the front bumper with metal.... and that is legal with no warnings about air bag mistimings.... don't think it's quite as sensitive as they would have you believe. |

the are that sensitive if you look on the bull bar the brackets on it have crumple zones built into them the air bar sensors go off via inertial deceleration the bag inflates imediatly and as i said deflates partialy before you hit it weight does not come into it however what you said about height is there are reported cases of short people being injured in non adjustable steering wheel cars one reason they were put in and yes i know the chasie on the car looks simmalar but they are differnt just dont appear to be
