Yeah macca I knew you were taking the piss...my response would have been rather severe if I thought you were serious
I'm probably going to use a 4 poster although a 2 does have it's advantages.

Well I've decided to push my luck again and had a go on the driveway, partly because I was getting impatient and partly because although my mate has a hoist, its a 2 poster so the hump on the floor would've created havoc with the trans jack so here's what I did...

Got it under there yesterday morning by myself and made my sore back and stuffed shoulder even more so.
The F-series mount and piece of crossmember I used as a balanced jack point which worked very well after I welded the rubber mount solid.
I started by just bolting it up in the original position just to see where the bell would end up...

As you can see it sticks out a bit but, it's not as far forward as i expected.

Bolted up the engine to check the clearance. Looks like it'll be through the bonnet where the T-body sits but not where the back of the plenum sits near the firewall. I think I'll set the whole lot back about 50-60mm and the HO upper will still clear....the other intakes I don't think so, unless I can find a GT40 upper which I believe is a smidge shorter than the Cobra/Explorer upper.

You can have the F-series transfer for $100 if you like? Everyone reckons they're worth at least $500 but no-one has bought mine.
I'm probably going to get a '98-'01 5.0 Explorer 4R70 built by a guy in the U.S. but, as usual they're hard to deal with. He's quoted $1800 for one that's overkill for my rangie.
I asked another joint over there and they came back with, quote; "it will be the proper tranny to fit to the back of the 351w, will just to need to know the year of the motor,,,,"
WTF!? I asked what the year of the ENGINE has got to do with it and have had no response(as usual).

Hey Pete who did you use for the g/box quote as I'm looking at boxes other than t400 for this project we have, must be 4 speed & must handle 1000rwhp & preferably of a Ford & may have to have a chat to Tony as I need to get a bell housing made to bolt up to a 6cylinder.

cheers

Hey Joe,

It was Dirty Dog Performance. His name is Alan. Btw it's been well over a month since my last email to him. Apparently my business is not too important to him. I don't know if a 4R70 can be built to handle 1000rw.

Yep, that guy seems to have a good rep but I might just buy the parts and build it myself now.
There's a guy on modularfords.com selling one that handles 1000hp because he's now got 1400hp so he's getting something else.
Tony works for a mining engineering mob.

Hi everyone. I was the one selling the 1000hp 4r70w. I have since brought it back to my trans builder and hes built me one to handle up to 1500rwhp. so far it is handling up great and shows no signs of struggling to hold up the power.

My 1500hp one :)

Thanks for that twinturbo4v, maybe you should talk about how it's built and the cost to remain relevent to this thread? Cheers.
Looks like Level10 built it Joe.

Thread contains mech-o-porn. Its a good read so far, even better that you actually see things through to completion. Keep up the good work.

Cheers Lads.
Ok some things I found since saturday morning.
The front shaft clears the trans pan rail but, only by about 4-5mm. So I'm going to have make a solid shaft which may help aleviate another possible problem...starter motor clearance.
If this doesn't help the next option is to mod the bell to take a BTR passenger side starter.
Of course I won't do anything until the whole thing is set back about 60mm.
