Well it appears that the happiness was premature.
Got home form work , went ot start it up to go out and its playing its old game again. Just cranking over and not so much as a f@rt......................... Anyone want a Fairlane?.....its living on borrowed time now.

Yeah it seemed really ok didnt it..............it really really has me f**k.
It is cold start that is the issue. Leave it over night and during the day when Im at work and it just doesnt want to start. It starts eventually but not real easily. Once it is up and running not an issue in the world. Starts everytime! The chip should be getting programmed this week. Fingers crossed that has something in it. The problem has only appeared since I did the head and manifold swap. Im wondering if the cold start mapping is out due to the extra compression? The issue has been with it even when I had the 19lb injectors and MAF in it so I can see that 24lbers or AU MAF causing it. It might make it a bit worse but it is definately not the cause if the issue.

Far out man, that's a bit of a head case isn't it! Hope you get it sorted soon. I will be keeping in mind the TFI modules are the same from 6 & 8, i have a few spare here from good dizzys, one is for a project, but the rest are spares.

I've got more compression than standard Matt, and mine has had no such problems with it starting.

Yeah I was thinking that Mark.
Its doing my head in thats for sure. Yesterday I hit the key three times and primed the rail and it started first kick. The car had sat on the battery charger all night but. Today did the same and no joy. The car wasnt on the charger. New battery and alternator in it so I cant see it being a battery issue. Something is intermittent. The tune is currently being done and might be finished this weekend to try it out. It that doesnt fix it its back to looking and playing. The cars is an E series so the problem is most likely electrical................

Well after a bit of discussion and playing around with the piece of s**t a few things were thought of at the liverpool meet to try and sort the problem out.
So today I have been trying stuff. Change ECU = Fail Diconnect EGR and plug vacuum lines = Fail Change BEM = Fail It just sits there , cranks over , fuel up and does nothing. It has got to the point where there is nothing left to change , I honestly dont have any clue anymore and it is a big garden gnome sitting in the driveway. As much as I scream at it and say I have to get another car and strip it and piss it off , it has had that much money spent on it lately that I cant afford to go and buy another car , I have no idea what to do with this one.........im just over it all and dont know anymore. The time of being angry has passed and I am just miserable over it all now. The car has really reminded me why I hate E series Fords.

Diagnostics comes back ok.
Been thinking long and hard about the wiring harness , but I am thinking if it was a wiring issue it wouldnt just be when it was cold. It would give me issues all the bloody time. Thought about putting it back to stock long and hard but it wont happen. I will strip it and f**k it off before it comes to that. There is something else I am thinking of doing which will involve the boat dying but I need to work out the lack of finances and check with the minister first , but with having to finish off my Mav and needing the cash for that I dont think it will happen. Was just talking to Brett and we tried disconnecting the MAF to put the car into limp mode and pull a stack of timing out to see if it changed anything. Well it then started eventually , was still hard but so dont know if the problem could be too much timing. I will try it again tomorrow morning and then look down that avenue if it helps. After that it will be pull the ignition system out of the Mav and swap it over and see if it helps. I know the Mav starts and runs so that would knock things out of the mix. Stupid f**k car. I should of just stripped it when I got it.

Have been doing a lot of thinking today about this and most of it outside the square as nothing normal is making any sense.
It appears to be doing what a LPG vehicle does when it has crap spark. Turning over fine , getting plenty of fuel , and eventually letting out a few coughs and f@rt but just not kicking over. Once it is running its fine. So I am really thinking it is a crap spark issue. When I was running LPG cars and had the same issue the answer was always in a bigger ignition system. So I have gapped the plugs back to 0.9mm to see if the spark is a bit more intense and makes it easier to fire. IF it does work I will look at upgrading the ignition for bigger bangs. I know the small gaps on the plugs is going to hurt the power output and driveability but it is just a test for the moment. The car is now running AU irridium plugs , but I think they should work fine on the E series ignition. I have also been thinking about the whole static and dynamic compression thing. Eveyone else who has upped the compression on their cars and hasnt had the same issue has also changed the cam. My cam is still standard. I am wondering if the car is under cammed and it has too much dynamic compression to start with a standard ignition system? I know when you put a bigger cam in a carby car that you generally have to advance the timing a bit to get it running due to you loosing dynamic compression. I wonder if I am suffering the reverse? Yeah I am clutching at straws.......

Its all sweet. The issue isnt now fuel its spark by the looks of it.

Matt, silly question but how is the coil, we had same issue when the wagon played up and was the coil, till the ECU relay stuffed out. Stuffed TFI will f**k a coil quick.
