Drivers or passenger. The drivers survived. And the bar isn't that bad, but I need a new reo bar as the original snapped in 2. The bar actually bent alot and flexed, but the spot light on the left and it's mount/surround are gone. The cosmetic stuff isn't that bad. I will need all left hand lights, and a front cut. Am chasing those down later this week
Brett

Motorsport is without a doubt dangerous, and you have some seriously big balls to go out & drive that thing that hard!

No point building a fast car if you never make full use of it.

Sometimes exercising the limits you go to far.

The GT-P is still wearing a battle scar from a tyre barrier at the moment.

Similar to Brett's off, lost the back end on the last corner (wasn't a tank slapper though, just rotated on me too quickly to do anything about it).

Them's the risks, but I'm sure both Brett and Sam will agree, it's so worth it. Pretty sure it's the most fun you can have in the front seat of a car.

Yep, agreed data_mine. I accepted long ago that mine may get bent in competition, and last year I actually got away with hitting a tyre barrier (actually, just a stack of tyres as it wasn't earth-filled, which very fortunately made it a soft hit; I still had that sickening, sinking feeling before the impact though when I realised that I'd binned it).
Plenty of our fellow competitors also came over to see Brett over the weekend and offer empathy with stories of their past crashes, all of which they eventually bounced back from to continue enjoying their motorsport.
As I said to Brett, in a weird way it's actually good to over-step the boundary slightly once in a while; my incident last year certainly returned my respect for the consequences and made me a better driver for it (I'm not 'attacking' as much as I was, but I'm still going faster than last year; it finally got through to me that smooth is fast).

May just take you up on that Paul/

I will be collecting it this weekend and it will be straight to the panel beaters, so they can assess it and see where i go from here.

Cheers

Blue car pictured in R2 report and mentioned in Editor's Notes;

Well, the weekend just passed saw Sam and myself head off to Fairburn Park in Canberra for Round 4 of the NSW hillclimb Championship.

After preparing both cars we headed off Saturday afternoon and stayed with one of my mates in Canberra. Changed tyres at his place then bed time for an early start the next morning.

SO up before dawn, and off we head to the track.

I had a little chat the the Clerk of the COurse and advised him of a Subsitute vehicle for me, as the TerroristGhia has had some issues at the panel shop and wasnt ready. :( He advised that would be fine.

So what did i run you ask, well, how about my ED 4.0 Auto on LPG.

So anyway a great day was had, and thanks to Datamine for dropping out, as well as some other friends i havent seen in a long time.

The results.
Well, if you have read my thread for the last 12 months, you would have seen that the same event last year i was dead last with a time of 59.75 on crap tyres and some other issues with the car. On that day same was 4 seconds faster than me.

So with a 6cyl Auto on LPG i managed to bang out a 55.71. :D
Yep, over 4 seconds faster than the 351. How did this happen.

Well let me say that it comes down to these simple facts.
1. Tyres are everything in a hill climb. For this round Sam lent me his front federal 595rsr's (as mine are on AU offset) and i used my MT ET Streets on the rear.

2 Smooth input and correct lines. I had been knocking out 57's all day, until a local gave me some advice on how to take the esses, and bam 2 sec's gone straight away.

3. Soft suspension. Because most hill climbs are on average surfaces with camber changes and poor grip, a soft suspension setup allows the car to be controlled much more smoothly, and doesnt dart around or oversteer when presented with bumps mid corner.

So, how would i have gone with the Blue car? Well Sam also improved by 4 seconds on last year, and i have been consistantly 1-1.5 seconds slower than Sam all last year and most of this year, so i could have seen a 7-8 sec improvement on last years time.

So boys and girls, If you have a stocker, you will be suprised at how fast it actually is, if you are willing to take it out for a run and have some fun.

On a side note, because I used the ED this weekend, the most expensive part of this round was the entry fee, heck i only put a fire extinguisher and a blue triangle on it and had everything else needed (even if some was borrowed). I also had the cheapest car at the event, and going through the preliminary results I wasnt the slowest and didnt come last :D

Til next time
Cheers
Brett

And this is the exact reason I built racecan, its cheap, its reliable with a bit of money spent on the right bits, they are actually reasonably quick. I posted some pretty respectable times at wakefield recently. Apart from removing some interior items, there is no really anything in it that you would not find me putting in an e series that would be on the street.

They are alot of fun for minimal outlay. They will never break records, but they will put a smile on your face. 6 banger e series can be a blast. Something about 4th to 3rd compression lockups inducing epic power slides on the track. its just speeds and commitment you cannot get on the road. As silly as it sounds, 3rd and 4th gear powerslides are a load of fun, but NOT powersliding and driving it balls to the wall is where its at on the track.
