In relation to the Blue car, I have been assured it should be back by the end of this week.

But back to the racing. Sam and I cruised up to Grafton on the Saturday morning of the long weekend making it in one go, and getting there in time for qualifying. This meant leaving at f@rt O'clock, but was worth it.

Again was forced to run ED, so in preparation, I had the front end wheel aligned, and slipped on some Federals I had flat spotted at Tamworth. I collected my 255 rear Federals from the Blue car, and with the aid of a set of Hub Adapters, didn't need to change wheels when we arrived. I have come to the conclusion that this is best, as we weren't the last to pack up and leave on Sunday due to f@rt arsing around changing wheels before departure.

So how did it go. Well Grafton really is a horsepower track, and has the steepest hill of all the tracks I have competed at ( I haven't run King Edward Park, or Huntly so cant compare those). The red car was slower everywhere, and I paid for it in relation to points. I couldn't crack the 60 mark, but did not come last.

What I can say, is that a soft supple suspension is very advantages to a hill climb. I have a plan for next year that involves an auto 6 pack falcon, with a locker equipped 4.11 diff, and a little whiff of boost. I feel that this can be a very competitive setup, from what I have learned with the ED.

So I finished 3rd in class, but 2nd for the championship, and am happy with that. Given the Blue car the results may have been different, but we will just have to dream.

Enjoy the spread sheet and see how much slower the ED is, which points that an auto is no disadvantage, but more HP and a function LSD will make a huge difference.

Cheers
Brett

Most noteworthy for me from that data is that ED's final split at Grafton (just a fast right hander off the fastest run on the straight) was quicker than the blue EF on the same type of tyre, and within 0.14 of my best in my silver EB (again on the same type of tyre) despite all the extra work I've done to make the EB corner better and the extra speed I should be doing at the start of that sector. Despite how high and soft it looks ED sure can carry some speed through the corners (especially when it has had the chance to build it up beforehand). A turbo version with short gearing and the locker should be awesome.

Skill level has definitely improved. No too ways about it. Using an underpowered car has taught me to be smooth and precise on inputs, and this has resulted in better times.

Unquestionably, ever-improving skill is a factor overall. My point was, in a sector where horsepower matters very little, comparing it to a car with the same shell, the next model's shell, and also many others on the splits table, there's nothing wrong with the ED's stock, high, supple suspension's ability to hold speed in a fairly fast corner. What I'm really getting at is, ride height and body roll aren't the corner-speed-killers that most people think they are.

Well, it has been a while since I have posted I here. A few reasons.
Firstly, Round 7 to be held and Ringwwood was cancelled due to a track up grade that hadn't been completed in time for competition. And Secondly, I was eagerly awaiting the return of the Blue car.

So here it is.

Collected it late Friday afternoon and took her out to Harries for the Friday night meet. Ran well but had a lot of foibles I didn't remember. Driving the AUTO ED has really made me soft.

Anyway, Saturday morning and it was off to First Choice Tyres to have the fronts swapped over for my feredals, so she is running 235/45/17 fronts and 255/40/17 rears. Brought it home and attended some brake issues as well as attempting to replace the long studs on the front hubs. Well turns out my replacement front studs are 15.00mm and the ones I it are 14.5. No way they were going in there so swapped the back. Then I proceeded to remove all the nitrous system from the car. This resulted in a late minute dash out to Trents (EB1347) for a fitting to block the dash 6 line that fed the NOS.

So I then attempted to fit the Trickflow R series upper, only to discover my studs were too short so back on went the tower of power.
By this stage Xcabbi had arrived and it was time to head off to the gong to overnight and be up early the next day for Huntley Hillclimb.

So working into the night we replaced the NOS gauge with the water temp gauge that had been dislodged I the accident and secured the battery box in the boot. This meant an 1130 knock off for a 6am start Sunday.

Up bright and early Xcabbi and I headed off to Huntley and fronted up for scrutineering. Sam was attending Eastern Creek for the Supersprint Championship, which meant I had the round to my self regarding points. So first run up the Hill was a 31.39,and it seems I am a little off the pace. Sam advised me his best was a 29.7 and Wade had run a 31, so time to try a little harder.
2nd run and I recorded a 30.04, which put me in 15th outright from a field of 38 so was pretty happy with that. Next run was a 30.13 so I was pretty consistent. Now I this hill is pretty intimidating and I wasn't driving the car to its full potential, needing some brave pills as I didn't want to bend it again.

3rd run and I smacked out a 29.32, and was stoked. She was starting to come together. Now the car wasn't behaving badly at all, but i was still being conservative, braking where others were only lifting off. Last run of the day was a 29.98 leaving me in 16th overall, and if I am right, I may have actually placed 10th fastest tintop on the day.

So we pack up and I collected my first trophy, so was pretty stoked. Heading back to Xcabbi's I noticed a knock in the front end. Remember how I had tried to replace the studs on the front hub, well it turns out I hadn't seated them properly, and as such the left front wheel was loose

Tighten them up then return to Sydney with nil further issues.

In all a great weekend , and I put it to Nick to post up some of the photo's and video of the weekend.
Cheers and thanks for reading
Brett

Well done bloke, that was a bit quicker than my best time from last year. Also interested to see if you did get any points in Tin Top because that's more than I've ever managed (I was 11th at Bathurst both days so just outside the points).
