I can see those baby Jesus tears now. I too have had those tears. What a f**k bummer!! Good thing you checked though. Better to find out now than after all the work was complete.

Quick easy score with the new crank and rods. Good buy?

Yeah I reckon it was an ok buy. Not a bargain by any means but definately fair.
Set of 8 standard size rods and a standard grind 351 crank for 2 hunj. Have not checked if its a 4MA or 4MAB yet as I didnt think of it. It had the right numbers on it and was a pretty good price and was only 10 mins from home.
Wont need it for a bit but its good to have. Will be getting it balanced , nitrided and te rods will be peened with ARP bolts fitted.
Definately not a 10 grand crank but will do this little black duck.
This is the car to go to and from work in remember.....................LOL

Have had a slow couple of days. Been busy at work and waiting for some bits to turn up.
Have been having a play with the heater box and I have an idea that I will be trying before buying an aftermarket unit.
Need to get the motor in first. Hopefully this weekend.

Now I have been wondering what to do with the crappy old dash board. The dashpad is cracked and I have been thinkingabout fitting something else that looks a bit better.
To the guys who have done one. How hard is it to fit an EF EL dash?
What issues was there hooking up the air vents , heater controls etc.
Any major issues getting the cluster to work correctly? I wont be having a BCM or ECU at all in mine.
I wont have an issue with the window winders hitting the dash as I am fitting power windows.
Im just thinking at the moment to put something a bit newer looking and different in it.
Any help or ideas appreciated.

Wow, getting into pioneering mode buddy :) I reckon it would look cool with an EL dash but then again I am biased....cause I have a spare one :)

Nothing wrong with that price, especially standard grind. Spray some blue paint on it with lots of runs and over spray and it'll be a ten grand crank!.
Ohhhhh, stop it. Some of that 10 grand crank was obviously spent on painting the head with a silver paint too... Obviously the crank was only 9995.

Yes, it is funny... Can't wait to see this 302 / 51 with 9 grand crank rev to 8000 once the speed limiter is removed....

That's funny too.

And when you put the coil packs on, be sure to put the dizzy backwards.

Stop it already.

6mm thick Blue paint (applied in one layer) for the win.

Meanwhile, back in the land of the sane ---
EL DASH (seriously) for the win.

Going slowly Phill.
Been getting stuffed around with work and bits not turning up when they are meant to.
Also more ideas popping into the scone and making the project bigger each day......................
Picked up the diff lock the other day and some other bits.
The missus is working all weekend , I have been blackbanned from anymore overtime this week and my engine lifting plate turned up today so fingers crossed the motor will get dummy fitted on Saturday. Then I will most likely have a fiddle with the exhaust and pull it all back out after taking some measurements and start welding.
Hopefully will have some progress to report over the weekend.

All cool on the heads mate. When your down your down. The new motor wont be getting done until its all engineered and signed off on , then I will whip it out and do it.
Spoke to the engine builder the other day and we are going with a 6" rod setup.
He is doing the bottom end really cheap. $1800 for a complete balanced bottom end that he reckons will hold 6000 all day every day.
Will be going something like a stage 3 cam with a power band of 2000-6200 with a 2500 stall.
He reckons it will be a very torquey motor that will get up and go when I want it to but be fairly docile for day to day duties but have enough lump to keep things interesting.
