Hello Fellow Ford Modder's!

I thought it was time to start my official build thread (it's overdue) of what's being changed and upgraded in my car.
After reading through Lukyson's thread on the MAC to AAC duel zone, and his thread on the Fairlane interior upgrade I have decided to embark on the same mission myself.

I'm planning on doing this in a few stages the first stage being the duel zone upgrade, and some loom changes. e.g., dash loom for hi series premium sound, (and hopefully hi series Fairmont ghia Left and Right Main Looms) to support future upgrades like memory seats, memory mirrors and maybe a few other options.

I'm starting with basically a Bottom of the run 03 BA XR6T (not one single option) so this is going to be a mission.

As of the start of this thread I have most of the stuff I need to complete my conversion, (just need the looms, Most critically the Dash Loom) and hopefully can find and source them today while I'm in the city.

Will continue this thread and keep this fairly updated and documented with pictures and descriptions as best I can. I will add some pictures of all the stuff i have so far tonight to this thread.

Hey ford modders just a note to say I managed to pick up the fairmont dash loom I was after to get this premium sound duel zone conversion underway cost me the slightly pricey sum of $150 little more than I was expecting, but I guess ya get that. Now just to get the left and right main looms from a fairmont giah they can be done at a later stage with a little pain. Pics later of the loom

Got 2 quotes on the main LHS and RHS loom's this morning.

1ST quote
Place in qld quoted $150 :? including labour of removing them, (presumable both sides for that i did ask for both). Then would be postage on top making it a total of guessing near $200

2nd Quote

Local wrecker has Quoted me $75 Each, making the total $150, and can take drive to pick them up or have them picked up for me.

3rd Quote

CBF getting one looks like I'm looking at around 150 for the pair, Pity the place i got my dash loom yesterday didn't have a fairmont ghia, was quoted $250 for the dash and main left and right loom there.

Shows what looms can be worth and what we will pay if we really want/ need them, i was expecting $150 the lot, SILLY ME! lol

heh..

I'm doing the same thing except with an 04 BA XR6T.

Already got BF ICC/BEM/Cluster and steering colume in the car.

This weekend I put the passanger side loom (runs all the way from the drivers side of the boot, up to the passenger kick panel and on the way goes across the back shelf, and to the fuel pump.

Went in fine, I now have side airbag sensors too. I have all the rest of the looms from a high series BF, and the ABS module too as it's different and incorporates the dynamic stability control that the high level BF's have.

Incorporated in that side loom is the wiring for the factory reverse sensors and the premium sound systems.

Still got to do the dash loom, and the drivers side loom too.

I'm actually upgrading my car to full BF ghia spec.. Which would make it kind of a BA version of a G6E turbo if they had such a thing back then.

shame you are not in perth, I could save you a lot of money on looms.

:D I'm glad I'm not the only one around crazy enough to under take this still, definitely a shame about the looms, ill be snatching the 2 i can get up this week hopefully. then i can do all the work that requires all the trim out I'm aiming to do all the looms and dash out in a weekend job, I'm trying to stick to all BA looms, not keen on playing too much with air bags. mine shouldn't throw a fault if its never had side sensors if i don't put them in.

the modules for the srs were different, think it was mostly in the wiring of the telling it when the car was on and running, i could be wrong there I'm going by the unreliable Gregory Manuel there for wiring.

I'm still yet to get a Green BCM for my conversion, then i have to argue with the local ford place about it being possible to change a blue one for a green one.

I'm still a little undecided on the reverse sensors guess that depends on pricing down the track and availability
its a little bit harder going from what's supposed to be a flash car and having no options, to fully optioned up like a fairlane. guess its all personalisation and worth it in the end though

I should make a note that i managed to find myself a complete ford? documentation of pictures of where all the looms in the ba and i'm guessing bf falcon run and the connectors connected to them, along with pictures of the connectors and pins in them there always helpful found them over on the ford forums site

I only got the reverse sensors because I wanted the factory tow bar pack off a fairmont and it had the sensors incorporated into the loom.

Then after hooking it up I realized that my side loom didn't have the plug for them.. so I went back and got the side loom too.. Then I found out the rest of the car was about to be scrapped so since I was anyway there I went nuts and stripped every loom out of the car. Even the engine loom.
I got the PCM and other modules too. Since I already have territory rear brakes, I am getting very close to having upgraded my car to BF once I get all this stuff in. (the hard part will be figuring out if the Fairmont PCM can handle the BF XR6 turbo tune on it.)

Feel free to tell your man at the wreckers that my BA XR6T had a blue BEM module, and I upgraded it to a high level BEM from a BF and all I needed was to do a PATS reset with my mongoose cable and FPM. (the high level BEM is not green, it's white and it has a green sticker on it. :-) )

Will do, ill even show him the forum threads that say its possible, all i have done to mine at this stage is the pass side mirror and door loom. Where did you get the FPM software? ive been thinking about trying out one of the Chinese VCMII.

So so far I have the mirror and door loom changed, was a easy job and only took a hour (was d!cking around and had visitors chatting to me) the part i thought was going to take me a hour alone (unplugging the door loom connector between the body and door) only took 5 mins. I cant say im 100% happy with the mirror, looks after market and jitters as you drive down the road, will be changed eventually when i do the memory mirrors in the next phase of my plans.

i have to get onto the rest soon the lounge room is starting to look too full of car bits lol.

Pictures to Come tonight of the LHS door loom and mirror change.

Well the local wrecker turned out to be a waste of time, they didn't have a ba fairmont ghia in there. Glad I asked to take a look and not just got them to pull the looms and ill have someone pick them up. Oh well guess ill have to get the other lot.

I don't know what they normally go for.. but I have a mate who buys cars from the auctions and strips/sells them.. last time I checked he had a couple of BA Ghia's there. I don't want them because I'm upgrading my car to BF or BFII if I can.

Depending on shipping from Perth to SA, it might be better to ask him what he wants for them.

That would be great if you could, depending on shipping costs and pricing. i might be after a few other parts down the track. if you do ask him can you ask about the washer bottle sensor as well please? they seem expensive for what they are and do lol.

wondering what sorta PITA its going to be to do the 2 side looms later, passengers side is easy not so sure on the drivers since it splits and runs behind the seat up the tunnel to the ARS and selector.

question about your bf looms, was the rear console courtesy light built into the loom or is it on a seperate connector, info i have shows it is a separate loom.

Putting the BF passenger side loom in was actually way easier than it was to get it out of the BF.
(and I have a gas tank) The hardest part was getting the front door part of the loom up though the hole behind the kick panel, I fed some wire in from outside the car and used it to draw the loom though.. but it's not a great shape so was fiddly. The passenger side loom doesn't include anything accept the fuel pump under the back seat and the parcel shelf and boot looms up the back. (and up the pillar as it has the side inpact sensors for the curtain airbags ( I have FG seats in my car and I've been wondering if I can hook the seat airbags up to the side airbag system I will have once it's all in the car)

The Drivers side loom will be much harder as it will require all seats, the centre console and carpet to be removed as it has a section that runs across the floor under the front seats. I don't know remember seeing the rear curtsey light connected to either side loom when I pulled them out of the Fairmont.. as far as I know it's part of the centre console loom.. That would fit with what I know from the earlier model falcons too.

hmm, waiting till i have other looms sorted is the go then, don't want to have it off the road longer than i have to, being my daily driver. still got to go over my dash loom make sure a few critical wires are in it, if there not I'll have to splice them in.

I just pulled the entire dash loom out of the fairmont too.. is a bit fiddly as it's woven in and out of the metal behind the dash.

Mine is a daily driver too.. that is why I am doing it in sections, a weekend at some stage in the future will be spent pulling out all the seats and carpet etc and doing the drivers side loom as I think it will still hook up to the BA dash and engine bay looms too. (because there is even less extra functionality provided by the drivers side (air bag) loom compared to the passanger side (air bag, reverse sensors, premium sound etc))

The hard part for me comes when I do the dash and engine bay looms together, because I will have to do the ABS, PCM etc, and turbo looms at the same time.. and more, I have to make sure that the BF turbo tune will fit in the fairmont PCM. Gonna be fun that one... have to finish the whole thing in one weekend or I can't drive it to work on the monday.
