True, but you have to keep in mind, it's a fairly heavy parcel.

OUCH, but to be expected... Aussie mail is a rip off, absolute con job you Aussies have to put up with. No wonder buying stuff online is more popular in NZ, we don't have to pay through the nose like that.

Mate, obviously I am sending you the exact same parcel as you are sending me, and it was quoted to cost me $40NZ (about $35AU).

And NZ doesn't do surface mail either. It is on a plane from me to you in 6-10 days... Like I guessed, it would be 100% more expensive to send stuff to NZ than the other way around. Just bloody typical.

Anyway, can you please answer my other question about ringing you with a credit card number?

And do you happen to have any shims you can throw in?!!!!

Mark, we haven't charged you for anything. We have your credit card on file but we haven't used it. We're not in the habit of charging people for work until the job is finished.

Also, what's the story about the failed grind? This is news to me. I don't have any record of us ever doing a cam for you.

I trust that you checked the pricing for yourself on the Aussie Post website. http://www.auspost.com.au. I wouldn't like you to think that l'm trying to rip you off.

Yes, you can ring through with your credit card details.

We have a small quantity of shims, but, l can't be sure of we have the appropriate diameter for your motor. It may be easier for you to get them from your local Ford dealer.

Mine is an EF, which used the shim with the a*** plastic retainer that disintegrates inside your engine over time. They measure about 11mm in diameter without the plastic retainer and are 1.8mm thick or similar. I can check with calipers... I was asking simply as the ones I have are from an old motor and I thought I could perhaps do with the plastic retainer for ease of installation.

I just went down one of two engine reconditioning shops in the whole of Wellington and found that after sixty years of machining blocks, manufacturing pistons, resurfacing rockers and what have you they have gone. Off to play golf forever.

Rank. The other engine shop in town sucks, and I wouldn't trust them with being able to find your rockers once you hand them over to get resurfaced. Your site suggests resurfacing or new rockers are a must, but fails to mention any cost of you doing it. Before I start proceedings by sending you an old cam or two, could you advise on the rocker side of things also?

Image
I *was not* suggesting you were trying to rip me off on the postage man! I've had quite a bit of stuff sent from your neck of the woods and it just amazes me that you Aussies have to pay that amount. For $40 odd in NZ I got an entire gearbox with bellhousing and shifter attached shipped inter-island!

Image
Please note that FORD NZ wanted close to $800 for a front bearing input retainer for my T5 and are asking $375 for a clutch cable. I have since found the retainers from two aftermarket suppliers for less than $100 delivered to NZ, and can get five clutch cables delivered for less than $375 for a single FORD NZ one.

It is not even worth my while to ring them and ask for shims or new rockers.

OK I'll have a look at what we've got left in the shim department.

As far as Aussie Post is concerned, well, you are dealing with Government department after all. We all know what they're like. Victoria, for example, has been in the grip of a drought for years. We've been on water restrictions for yonks. Water utility Companies, with the support of the State Government, want to charge us heaps more for our water, even though we're using less because of the restrictions.
More money for less product. Good business when you can get away with it.

More money for less product is definitely good business until there is a decent competitor in the market! Maybe NZ could run a pipe to WADE and you could sell some primo water and buy a tropical island of your choice.

I am looking hard for someone who can "resurface" the rockers. Can you please provide more details about this --- How much can they skim before ruining the correct operation of rocker with new cam etc etc?

I am nothing if not a novice.

No need to apologise for being frustrated Mark. Just imagine how we feel. Grinding cams is the only way we make a living. If cams (billets) are not available, we're stuffed.

The problem is, we order a certain number of cams, based on the anticipated next delivery. When that delivery blows out by 6 months, you're in the poo.

I'll keep your order in the system and will contact you when a cam arrives just in case you might have somehow managed to get your hands on one elsewhere.

Are you aware that you can do a 1521A as a regrind. You need to machine towers or something. I can find out if you like. Providing everything is done right it works fine, or so l'm told.

Chris

Hey, got my 1671AU (1673) cam in my car now and it goes great. Not as pokey downlow as the 1502AU (1636) cam but once you get past 3000rpm is just pulls to redline. Im getting it tuned when the tuner fixes his computer with a J3 chip and we are gonna up the limiter and fix the A/F and see if we can get much more out of it. Also im using and auto with 3.08 gears and it idles better than the milder 1502AU cam (1636) which is good.

If you've been looking at my thread at all (don't blame you if you have not been by the way, it is awfully rambling, just like it's owner...) you would have noticed that I have been going on about getting a 1673 for quite sometime. I researched this by watching other threads and shutting the hell up for a minute or two. More importantly, I was born in 73, so it just seems right.

The EF Monty I6 cam should be there before the weekend, please give it the once over and reply here when done! Will be on the dog n bone with the credit card number within minutes...

J3 is on the way (again) with a slight improvement from EF XR6 for things like 98-105 octane fuel only and hopefully a little consideration given to the 1673 insertion.

Am I really 35? I feel like a school kid on Christmas eve.......

Hi Robert, I'd be inclined to suggest our AU1671 profile, similar to the cam that "GeZza200" has (refer a few posts back).

I can email the specifications to you if you wish.
