i will still mod the XR it will just take alot longer to do it. and i wont go as far with mods than i would with the XT. then again spending 5000 on the XR will take it to the price of a XR6T and still wont match it in performance. who here would consider paying $45 a week in insurace and extending a already big loan to get the XR6 turbo?

Go down the middle, get the Fairmont!

You might think its middle, but its actually top!

I was in the same boat about 7 months ago and after looking at XTs and XR6s, I was going to buy an XT due to the price difference I could not justify! Yes the XR6 looks better but I dont thing it is $9000 better!!

The major difference between the two are bumpers, alloys, seats, leather wheel and suspension. The XR6 is based on the XT so it is very plain on the inside. This means no premium sound, no rear power windows, no LSD, etc! And because 98% of used XR6s in Perth are ex fleet, they have no options at all!!

In the end I bought a Fairmont which was the logical choice as it was priced little below the XR6 and made the XR6 look cheap! We are talking full electrics, premium sound, in-dash 6 stacker, dual zone climate control, premium dash and centre console, plush pile interior, wood grain, leather wheel, additinal interior lighting, 4 air bags, traction control, exterior chrome, colour coding, etc, etc.....

When buying the car I got XT/Ghia headlights put on because I dont like the Fairmont/Futura headlights. Since I have put a set of wheels on it lowared it and tinted the windows and done some intake mods. I am considering putting the Ghia boot garnish on depending on cost and that will be it.

Here are a few pics. If you are interested the car may be for sale in the near future depending on how good the updated BA range is in October.

Yeah very cool ride XtrMn8. But not too keen on the wheels as they look to much like Merc Rims. I would of personally gone for a thick set of 5 or 6 spokes. Have you debadged and only left the Ford Badges :?: Keep up the good work :D

LSD is an option on the standard BA XR6.

seeing that fairmont has made me reconsider. i think i might just look for the best deal and go with that. insurance is $500 more a year for the XR6 over the XT.

Its not worth paying the extra 9g for the XR6. In the long run it will cost you a hell of a lot more then you might think. As you stated the insurance is a lot more and also the nice transfer you get after buying the car would be about $400 more (20k vs 29k car).

Not sure where you are located but I know of a very nice 2003 Blue Pearl (same colour as mine) XT with brand new 17s and tyres lowared with King springs (same as mine) for 21k. I had a look at this car a week ago as it cought my eye. Not 100% sure on the type of mags but they were 6 spoke from memory! Very good value IMO coz the wheels and springs are about 2k worth. Something you dont have to worry at a later stage!! :D

.............might be some pics of it on ford site.

you need to sit down and ask yourself what you want.

is it power, looks etc.

I have the ba xt and have lowered it, dark tints and put the xr6/8 rims on it. I get loads of looks and comments and I'm happy with it.

I believe it handles better than the xr6 (much lower centre of gravity) and it goes just as well if not better. But it is still not an xr6 and so has the standard interior but that dosent bother me.

I was going to spend 6-8 g on a supercharger or the nizpro cam, exh, ext, flasher unit etc but have decided to wait a year or two and buy a XR6T.

If performance is what you want get an xt lowering and rims about 2500, exh, ext, cai will get you easily over 200 fwkw and will cost about another 1700. The insurance will be cheaper also and wait for 4-5 years and get the T then.

MKI XR6's don't. Its an option but the MKII XR6's come with traction control and LSD standard afaik.

If i had the money i'd get the XR6. Better interior, bodykit, heaps better colours and the front looks a fair bit nicer. But i still believe you can make an XT look just as good. I love the look of the XT with no badges or spoiler in dark colours dumped with some 18's. I'd spend the extra 9 grand on the XT, make it sweeeeet..
