Hi Guys.
Just purchased a 2002 AU Fairmont Ghia. Want to run diagnostics for error codes and live data. Looking at an Elm327 bluetooth for Android, coupled with Forscan Android. My main issue is that I have read some 'anecdotal' evidence that some cloned copies have caused ECU problems / damage. Obviously more geared toward the el-cheapo ones. I am looking at this one ...... https://www.ebay.com.au/p/Genuine-Vg...roid/908604909 Anyone bought from this seller or any opinions on the product. Thanks All Gary |

I've never heard about fake ELM clones messing up ECM. But I'm not a mechanic and don't talk to many mechanics, so I wouldn't know. Just seems like a fairytale, because real ELM327 costs like 70 bucks or something. They need something to scare you away from cheapies and into their own shop, no?
That eBay link is a fake, so worst that can happen is that it doesn't work correctly, loses connection, etc. Annoying, but I don't think it would be lethal for your car. I've used $11 USB versions before, and they worked good enough to read stuff. Many programs will complain or refuse to work with a clone, mind you. |
