Hi Guys.

Just purchased a 2002 AU Fairmont Ghia. Want to run diagnostics for error codes and live data.

Looking at an Elm327 bluetooth for Android, coupled with Forscan Android.

My main issue is that I have read some 'anecdotal' evidence that some cloned copies have caused ECU problems / damage. Obviously more geared toward the el-cheapo ones.

I am looking at this one ......

Anyone bought from this seller or any opinions on the product.

Thanks All

I've never heard about fake ELM clones messing up ECM. But I'm not a mechanic and don't talk to many mechanics, so I wouldn't know. Just seems like a fairytale, because real ELM327 costs like 70 bucks or something. They need something to scare you away from cheapies and into their own shop, no?

That eBay link is a fake, so worst that can happen is that it doesn't work correctly, loses connection, etc. Annoying, but I don't think it would be lethal for your car. I've used $11 USB versions before, and they worked good enough to read stuff. Many programs will complain or refuse to work with a clone, mind you.
