driving the car the other noticed it was getting real hot, didnt have time to pull over, as i was almost home, got home let it sit for a while to cool down then opened the rad cap and yeah it was pretty much empty, filled it up tried ot start the car, it turned over ok, so it wasnt seized then unfortunately whilst trying to get it to start i flattenered the battery (which has been playing up anyways), we tried to jump it it but got nothing, just a single tap noise, i'm worried that i have seized the motor even though it seems fairly unlikely.

does anyone know how i can check, the batterys on charge at the moment so i wont know till its ready.

check the dip stick to see if any water is in the sump will be a coffee milky colour, also see if you can turn motor over by hand the right way, if not see if you can turn it backwards, you my off cracked the head and be suffering from hydrolic lock up with water in the pistons.

If its a single tap noise I'd say batter or starter related.

yeah its definately busted the head gasket, coffee colour, just starting to form at the end of the dipstick, changing thwe head gasket is no drama, i knew i had to do that anyways, i'm more concerned about it being seized and having to change the whole motor.

i havent tried to hand turn it yet i'll go have a go now :)

ok well th3e battery is fully charged tried ot wind it over with some very some noises happening, its like a grinding but it dosent last long as the starter just packs in after about 3 or 4 turns, now its doing nothing at all. i gave it a few hits with a hammer, to no avail, maybe its buggered too.
nothing would surprise me today :x

i'll take the head off tomorrow.

the exact some thing happened to me ( left the car over night after running it hot with a f@#k head gasket) when i tried to start it it just clicked, tried to jump start it and still just clicked, so i thought id siezed it.
turned out by coinsidence my battery had died at the same time, new battery and it was like new again except many litres of water in the oil.
Good luck

I'd bet on hydrolic lock up happening, 1 or more cyl's filling with water and locking motor up, then draining over time.

dude, get someone to tap your starter with a bar , dont hit the solanoid, and turn it over at the same time..
Should work with that click, sounds like youve cooked the starter. Too much heat under that hood, Also make sure those jumper leads are attacthed good..
