My XE Falcon Build Plate doesn't quite stack up right. The Chassis number checks out ok and so does the build date (09/1983) but all the other codes are for an XD.

The car is an XE, it has the coil springs in the back and XE front panels.

Has anyone seen this before????

it definitely sounds like an XE, what other codes are off the XD?

i saw an xf at a wrecker the other day which when i noticed was a v8 my jaw hit the floor.. however upon closer inspection it had leafs at the back and xd build plates... the rest was all xf tho, full front conversion immaculate complete xf interior... even xf tail lights iirc... so it does happen and can be done, but i shudder at the thought of the cost

Its cheaper and easier to fit XF panels to an XD then it is to put a clevo under the bonnet of an XF and have it legal.

mine is a xd but has complete ZL (xf fairlane) interior and a XE front 16 hours of wiring work in it so yeah don't even think about the cost lol

Doesn't really matter what others have seen if you are questioning your cars lineage or if Ford made any XD/XE hybrid..

With your VIN, ford should be able to tell you about the car they produced that matches that number. XD or XE, what options, auto or manual, exterior and interior colors, etc....

The rego department should also be able to tell you the date of first registration, type of vehicle registered, engine number, etc, etc - given the rego number.

Give ford and your rego department a call - hopefully you checked for correct ownership before buying you XD/XE hybrid - it could be stolen, built up from stolen parts or just someones inocent project car, hopefully the later.

Cheers
