Just a point if you have had a clutch cable seize. Check the firewall cable entry. I have known a number to crack around the slanted tube - about 20mm out from the weld. Eventually they fail, the whole lot breaks in and no clutch. Mine failed in 1995 about 1,000kms from home and made a tempory repair in a farmers shed. (took the photo today - so - was not so tempory after all)

Cheers

You go thru a lot of clutches...as above, check the spout for the cable, can be welded or ford still stock the XD-XE bolt in bracket. make sure the cable is clean and lubed too, when I put mine in, I CRC`d the guts out of it and flushed a bit of gunk out by sliding the cable and spraying more in, after I cleaned that off I used silicon spray...should be good for a few years.

Tranny wise, you prolly wanna keep the 4spd or go a T5, maybe C4 auto with a bit of grunt in front of it...BW40 will serve you well if you don`t abuse it
