Hi there newbie! you will also need the efi head because the injectors actuallysit in the side of the inlet port . You will also need an efi pump and surge tank(or an efi fuel tank),high pressure fuel lines, efi airbox(with built in airflow meter).Much easier to source a whole efi car or "conversion kit".

you'll find that 99% of the alloy heads already have the injector reliefs cut into the intake ports, besides which, the injectors DO NOT sit in the side of the intake port, they sit in the intake manifold runner immediately beside the port in the head

the only heads without the injector relief would be the alloy head XD's, and *maybe* some early XE's

the EFI XE's and XF's did NOT get a surge tank, nor was there an EFI specific tank (although the 80L tank was supposedly mandatory with EFI's), the EFI fuel pump simply dropped into the tank as a complete assembly with the fuel level sender

lets see....

Intake manifold
airbox, AFM and airbox->throttlebody pipe
EFI engine bay wiring loom
WFI loom from dash to boot (for the pump)
ECU
Injectors and fuel rail
fuel pressure regulator
fuel lines&filter
Cast alloy rocker cover
EFI specific dipstick

ask anyone who's had an EFI XF..... not really worth the trouble if you're gonna run the stock ECU

Nar XE used Bosch LE-jetronic and XF used EEC-IV (A9L modified mustang I think)
I have manualy ground a XD head for the injecters into the intake port before. they do have about 2mm (from mem) of the side end of the injector pintle cap the head injector inset

Cheers interceptor for clarrifying that for us all. I know my xf's and it frustrates me to see fool with little or no knowledge blabbering on about s**t they don't know.

Yes you do need the EFI head, i have an EFI head off an XF 85-spac if you are interested. I wouldn't bother though, your better off going for a 4.0l in your car, from an xg. Money better spent.

Only cost about 1k for a xg right-off.

I argee with Interceptor u do NOT need a EFI head. When i replaced my head off my XF EFI i used a carby head and suprise suprise, the head has the injector port's. I know it was off a carby because it's was off my dad's carby XF.

The injected heads have a cutout but they also have a kidney shaped combustion chamber. I was going to do the same mod to my gold xf after the cook destroyed my good white ghia but after making comparisons it was easier to sell the wreck and buy a new car. The fuel tank is different cos the fuel pump sits in the tank and the hole in the non injected tank is not big enough for the pump. The fuel lines are different... etc the list just went on and on.... was looking into putting engine into TE cortina but no time, no money. Still have everything from tank thru to head, polished injector runners , plenham chamber and injector rail if anyone is interested
