u can remove the door trim when the door is closed just undo the 2 grab handle screw take the trim off around the inside handle remove window handle undo lefthand mirror bezel get a flat blade screwdriver and force bottom of door trim away from door get fingers under door trim and pull hard remove lock buttom lift trim up and it off u will find the door lock is worn so replace it

Been there done that, but on XEs.
Getting the trim off is a pain, but possible. It is annoying when you have do it 4 times in one week though........

Well all sorted now. Was the actual mechanism that screws onto the door and holds the door shut kinda thing.

Door trim was easy as to get off with door shut.

Sold car today for 1000 bux yay

I had to do it on more than one door......
The mechanism does fail, but one of the doors which stuffed up twice was the rivet that holds the linkage on had come out and beenreplaced by a slef tapper which kept on unwinding and the linkage jamming. A brand new handle fiked the problem.
I have to replace a part of the interior mechanism soon on one door and the exterior handle on another. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr....................
