if it is the ef/el type then the RHF door lock is obsolete from ford.

the left hand side is still available though

why not fix the door so u dont need the extra latches. only way the latches break is from door being not adjusted properly. or broken supports inside the door around the lower hinge

They are not like the XF type mech's you are thinking of, they are like EB type, there is no way to make adjustments, I had an XG a few years back and when I got it both of the mach's were stuffed (doors would not lock), I replaced the Mech's and I also had EB rear outer door handles Fitted, as the XG outer handles (like the XF) were prone to breaking, and harder to come by due to being different for XF handles...

pic of XG with EB outer handles...

Was that upgrade hard to do?

1 of my doors is playing up and wont shut unless you push the lock button down first.

Can you replace / fix the door hinges easily on these things? Mine sag a little.

I didn't fit the door handles, I got a Pannel beater friend to do it.. looks like your mech is shagged I would replace it, and to take the sagg out of the door you need to loosen the top hinge bolts and adjust it to take out the slack in the hinge.. you can get to the bolts esealy buy going in through the inner guard

im a panel beater myself and have fixed around 15 of the xg and xh model doors, the door frame lower hinge brace inside the door shell is the problem, the inner brace will eventually break then will crack the inner door skin above and below the hinge. (ford stuffed up the design and should have used larger braces.) this causes the cracking noise u hear when u open the doors. have a look in the door jamb of 75 percent of the xg / xh models and u will find this problem, cracks.

the door handles usually break from the top hinge moving and making the door back drop. so id check this too. otherwise the new handle wont last

the handles are easy to fix, rh xg door handle is same as the xf lh one, with 1 slight modification. u just have to transfer the xg lever onto the xf handle and they bolt straight in. just drill a 1/8 hole thru the rivet swap the levers overand put a washer and self tapper screw thru the middle.
ive done plenty of these and the handles are only $6-$10 from most places , unlike the genuine xg ones about $88

Hey all so what can you do if the door is cracked. I am looking at one and the lh door is cracked around the hinge. How do you fix this?
Cheers

I welded the cracks and installed a mild steel 20x5x400ish mm flat bar down the inside of the door from top hinge to bottom hinge and bolted the hinges to that. Added a couple of extras through the door skin to the bar between the hinges for extra stiffness.
There is no movement now

i did a quick fix for a mate the other day, took the trim off and looked in behind the lower hinge. you can see the cracks easily. jack the door up at the back using a block of wood so u dont damage the paint, checking the lower hinge is sitting roughly in the correct postion. then i just got the mig out and welded them up again. to fix the cracks in the door jam u need to remove the door and weld them up too.
