Thinking about getting a CAI put on me XH, wondering if anyone has done it and whether it is worth it for the power gains and economy (is there quite a noticeable difference in economy?). SS Inductions system is around about the $350 buck mark but if it pays for itself in economy why not?

Hey.....

I have the 'Bigmouth' on mine (au2 Fairmont v8)..(you can easily stick yr arm in and reach the airbox!).....id be patient and see if you can pick one up on special.....got mine for $69.00 (or there abouts) on big time special at Repco....wasn't even store stock, they ordered it from another store....so they must go on special from time to time......you might even be able to find a tickford intake from a wreckers somewhere....may do the same job.

Power gains with the intake alone are ,realistically, minimal if any. I did notice a slightly better fuel economy, but again nothing to write home about. However, couple it with a K&N Filtre and they do produce a rather nice induction noise.....thus adding to the overall goodness of driving at WOT..:)

That, along with a good set of headers and exhaust and the improved breathing of the engine should see some power gains. Nothing massive mind you, but you should notice a difference in throttle response....at least i did once the computer adjusted to the new airflow.

Cheers and good luck.

Cheers! Yea I've already got a K&N filter in there, Pacemaker extractors and a cat back 2.5" straight through exhaust with a hotdog and 3" tip. Great idea on the special though! Will have a bit of a browse on ebay as well but not a big fan of buyin stuff on the net personally. And yea the big mouth system is the one i'm looking at. Also with the larger intake I'm a little wary of more dust getting in as a drive on gravel a lot.

If it still has the log manifold, make sure and replace the air pipe, from airbox to throttle body, with one from an EA. The later ones have a restrictor in them, it will make a noticeable difference.
Good luck. 8-)

It would take a while to get $350 worth of fuel savings from a bigger air intake.

The EA bottom pipe is a good gain, fairly cheap from the wreckers too.

Cheers
