ok, this car is really giving me the s**t!
Good thing its not my daily driver - or i would be stuffed bigtime

ok, things that are new:
-new battery
-new starter motor (brand spanking new - not a reconditioned one) - reduction geared
-fuel pump
-regulator in the alternator

history since last prob:
-it has sat since i replaced the starter motor
-flat battery
-charged the battery up FULLY over 2 days prior to starting it today
hooked it all up, terminals are clean on the battery, earth off the motor(both ends cleaned) and both ends of the positive lead are clean.
got in it, tried to crank it over... can hear the startter motor spining slowly... its turning the motor over (fan was spinning on the front) but it wasnt kicking..

eventually got it started by a combination of things - draining the battery on my dads ute, and taking the oil cap off (i dunno if taking the oil cap off helped, but it started...)

let it sit idling for a few mins, got out and ran the multimeter across the terminals, 13.9v (running) 13.69v (parkers) 13.6v (lights on)
Battery guage in the dash showing above normal (one 'bar' up on the triangle)
I then reversed the car out of the garage, and onto the road, and onto the verge, got out (stilling running with lights on and batttery in dash still above normal) - let it sit there for a couple of minutes.

i come back to the car to put it away in the garage again, into D, off the verge, swing onto the driveway (one wheel only) and DIES.
tried to start it again (into P- been caught out there a couple of times lol) and back to the situ before i got it started, weak spinning and drained the battery.

i eventually got it jumpstarted thanks to the guy over the road and his ute (id flattened dads ute battery by that stage...)

when we did get it goign again, the dash was showing the same voltage - normal / above normal.

sorry about the long windedness, but trying to include all the stuff that happened before she stalled on me.

ok here are my questions:
1- why was it so hard to start in the first place?
2- why did it stall for no reason?
3- how can i fix it?

this car is starting to be a pain in the a**! its pissing me off, nothing ever seems to want to workl when i want it to...

thanks for any suggestions in advance guys and gals :)

i should hope that the starter motor is not stuff - it is only a couple of weeks old and cost me 170 brand spankin new...

timing is still set i think for when it was run on lpg - which i dont run it on (real fuels are a liquid i say) but im not sure if the timing was even changed for the llg (i would imagine it was...)

i cant hear / feel any knocking or pinging when its running, so it cant be that far out...

talking to my mate about it last night, he seems to think that it could be an earthing problem of sorts?

he suggests that i run a noioioice big fat earth cable from the motor to the body... cant hurt right?

Try another battery. The one that you charged up might have a dud cell. Even though its new it shouldnt happen but anything is possible.

Use a multimeter on the battery WHILE you are trying to start it to see what the voltage in the battery drops to. Anything under 11volts and you have trouble with the battery

went out into the garage to do this.. and put the multimeter across is to see what was in it to start with.. 7.89V.... and im like WTF?!

pull the caps off it to check it electrolyte wise, looking in at the plates.. they are bent.. and touching...
the electrolyte is nice and clear / clean..

so blond question of the year would be to ask: "is the plates touching bad?" but i allready know that!

looks like im up for a new battery, il still run new earths just to be sure.

cheers guys :)

this migt sound dum but if the oil cap is not on tight it will make the car stall. this is because the efi needs alot of vacum.my xe did this and it took me a bloody week to fined the problem.alos have a look at the fuseable links near the battery if thay are bad this .will give you less power serply to the starter motor.
