Just got a roll master cam gear and have installed it piece of piss
Just curious though i have set the gear to 4 degrees advance , timing chain had some stretch in it so technically 2-3 degrees advance I am running a 1636 wade, will this effect anything with valve kissing piston ? I don't want to be a mitch and have a motor grenade it self |

To set the vernier gear to find true TDC rocking no1 (harmonic balancers can slip)...
Once you have the crank set you then loosen the bolts in the vernier gear (may need to do the bottom bolt or two before you set TDC rocking no 1)... You then set a dial indicator up on the valve or lobe (depends what the spec says, lobe is easier I find) you zero the dial indicator then roll the cam (which will slip in the centre or vernier gear because it's undone) until you have achieved the setting on the spec sheet that came with the cam... Which is 50 thou of an inch at the valve at TDC? I am nearly sure that was what my 1636 was... Then nip the bolts in the vernier gear (just the accessible ones) and then roll the crank back and then ramp up again and make sure you still get as close to 50thou as you can as you stop the crank on TDC... This then allows for chain stretch and any head skimming done over it's life... It puts the cam in perfect recommended phase with the crank as indicated by the manufacturer... If you are chasing high or low horsepower then you start retarding or advancing from that setting... You can't just set the vernier gear to 2 or 3 degrees... Doesn't work like that and as you said chain stretch and head skimming will completely throw that out and it isn't a reliable or accurate method of phasing the cam in... Cheers, Tim

Cheers, Tim Awesome reply Tim , i should cheek your thread more often i feel bad your always tinkering with AU onwards parts retro fitting stuff That explanation should be a sticky in the 6 cylinder section I still cant believe how stretched the chain is with such "low km" will leave as is for now till i get time in a few weeks i just am scared of valve kissing piston like with twix |

Too easy...
My 1636 was written wrong... Sure it said 50thou at the lobe... when I rang them they said s**t no it's 50 thou at the valve... I said the paper says this but and they tended to imply I was full of s**t... :/ I dialed it in to 50thou at the valve (25 at the lobe) and it worked and impregnated any valves into the pistons... The interesting one was the VCT... Cheers, Tim

Cheers, Tim Wait what impregnated does this mean the motor went grenade ? i am now tempted to go to 0 degrees as i have got bad luck and i am afraid it will happen to me also Ya wade cant even give me a straight answer when i rang them i rang twice and they gave two total different numbers |
