Hey all,

As you know my engine is out of my car at the moment, Im still trying to decide weather to build a tough n/a engine or turbo charge it.

But either way im going to need an aftermarket ecu, So I was just wondering what people would recommend?
I dont want to be spending thousands of dollars if you know what I mean but I want something decent.

Any info would be great. Its a 1997 EL Fairmont 6 cylinder auto.

Im either looking at snort performance stage 5 or building a twin throttle n/a engine... But the specs im looking at for the n/a engine wont idle at all without an aftermarket ecu, So far I have achived 421hp at 6000rpm using the latest engine building software, Thats twin throttle, 11.1 comp, ported head with oversize valves, and the cam well.....Its a custom one that ive been playing with and its huge...... Around 295 advertised duration, 235 duration at 50thou and roughly 600thou lift.

Hey Mate,

200RWKW is the ellusive figure for the 4L. Take it from someone who's spent over $15,000 trying to get there :) I *VERY* strongly advise looking at a turbo solution. With the same money invested in a turbo setup, you'll be cracking 400RWKW, rather than struggling to hit 200RWKW.

Have a read through the ECU Review thread in this forum. It will give you an idea of price and features.

I'm running a MoTeC M800.. Love it. Only thing against it is $$. To get one of these in, and running with all the features you want will cost well over $6000.

My favourite value for money ECU is the EMS 8860. Around $2000 up and running

For a stronger feature set for reasonable $$ is the Haltech E11V2 (or whatever it is). I think these can be done in the $3k mark.

Best ECU on a budget is the Megasquirt 2. $200 supply only :)

Is the 8860 better than the wolf 3d???

And can you get a handset for the ems 8860?

What would be better for boosted applications?

hi

there are several Wolf 3D V4 uses in here amongst other bands of ECU's
im one of the Wolf 3D V4 users we will be share information which maybe of help to u SO my thoughts are buy a Wolf 3D V4 we had a buying group the other other day did a bulk purchase made a substantial savings.

Turbo the engine nuffing like the rust  so they say i reckon SEX is still better  LOL

just a thought depends how ur cash flow is ??? buy a BA turbo engine and do a conversion on u 1997 EL Fairmont 6 cylinder auto

what more could u ask for a late model turbo engine cranking out a whopping 260kwatts at the engine and reliable everyday car
i have heard of people purchasing them from the wreckers for 8000 to 9000 dollars complete setup

or

find out where the damaged auctions are in ur aera and purchase the whole car youself and make a little money back cause thats what you will expect to pay at the auctioons for the whole car

and not to mention you will have ur 1997 EL Fairmont 6 cylinder auto still and the BA has larger brakes and twin spot calipers on the front a brake upgrade that you didnt even know about

have fun

CYA

So a wolf 3d version 4 or version 4 plus?
With a handset.

Do they have plug and play harnesses or do I have to wire it in myself?

And what is the difference between the wolf and the ems 8860 in terms of features. I dont mind spending that bit extra if im going to get a better product.

And I would rather keep my engine.

the 8860's are a good lil ecu
For the price they are feature packed and still have got alot of stuff coming for them.
Everyone has their arguments about ecu's but basicly if you gt one tuned good there as ood as each other ;)

Go a turbo! The only reason not to is insurance.
