Hey guys, Looking at upgrading the exhaust on my BA 6 cil to a 2.5" system, headers, cat etc, I was told that the engine might need a tune after this to match it to the exhaust, just wanted to know if anyone else has found this and could let me know what the extra cost of tuning was.
Thanks Guys.

you dont NEED a tune mate however the car will respond better to the upgrade if you do. Best to finish off your other performance mods before you do and then just get one custom tune to bring it all together, tunes can range from $1200-$2000 depending on where you go

Hey guys, got the exhaust done with an X-force system, ceramic coated headers and a 2.5" system, Turns our that with the BA the tuning isnt as important as with the BF as there is no second oxy sensor after the cat so no engine light issues were caused by the new system, Although like Phil545 said a tune will still help out but that will probably come after the cold air intake is done.

hey dude,
is your car auto or manual, and what sort of difference did the exhaust and headers make?

Yeah its an auto mate, I heard a lot of different things about the gain you get out of it, personaly i think there was an improvement which was slightly added to when i added the FPV air intake, Definently worth doing though, You get a good sound when you put the foot down but once your up to speed there is no drone which is exactly what i was after, this is for the X Force system anyway but you would think that others would be similar.
Getting the back end done will give you sound but if you want a performance gain go headers to.
Fuel ecconomy seems about the same.
Getting it tuned next week to match the upgrades.

yep same same.. i've got an auto too. good to hear that it gives a better note and no drone. mine doubles as a family car, so i dont want the cook b**ch about how loud it is. so its an X force, do you have the part numbers for the cat back bits? how much and where from? :?:
following the exhaust i will be looking into a diff ratio change for more down low torque as i reckon that first gear in the auto is too long, and even though its not a turbo or an 8.. it doesn't leave the line all that hard and doesn't get cracking until it gets to 3500rpm.

Na dont have the part numbers mate, looked through the receipts to check but couldnt find it,
I had it done at AutoXcess in Coburg Nth, Melb. Good guys and turned out exactly as described.
http://www.autoxcess.com.au/
I think they quoted high $400's for the cat back which was better than anything else i could find (one place said $590 for a redback system) so then i asked about a full system which put the price to $1300 (this is all in mild steel) ceramic coating the headers was an extra $300 so it was $1600 in total. The coating is worth it though if you want a neat look under the bonnet though, no flaking paint or distorted colouring like you get with stainless or standard mild steel.
Also when you get it done there might be a burning smell for the first few drives but its nothing to worry about.
Let me know how your diff ratios go, I rev mine to 1000/1200 RPM off the line to get a bit extra but most of the power is still up top which is where the exhaust and air intake come in, Im hoping the tune will help out down low.

i have looked on ebay for an exhaust system , but without any testimony i am reluctant - just incase its too loud. i saw one on flea bay that only has 1 muffler, which would be good for flow, but i dunno so much about the noise.

the change in diff is definatley on the cards (in a few months) as i will get more low down torque but only be a couple hundreds revs up when doing highway speeds

Yeah i think mine is definently loud enough, i hear a lot of louder ones on the road which sound awsome but i dont think id want that all the time, I know one guy who just cut the second muffler out of his standard system (2004 commodore) which made a good note, As for flow the best thing is the headers, on a non turbo falcon the most common is a "try Y" system which creates a vacuum effect caused by the momentum of the exhaust leaving each cylindar, You probably wont see as big a gain with just the cat back system alone, Once you see the standard headers compared to aftermarket you'll see what i mean, But in saying that a lot of people are happy with just the cat back system.

Got the car tuned over at Blue Power in Campbellfield to match the upgraded exhaust and FPV air intake.
Definently worth doing, tighter gear shifts, better reponse and heaps more guts in the low to mid range revs.
Heaps quicker off the line but still drives like normal when you want it to.
As far as fuel usage goes its hard to pick the difference but even if it was going to be slightly more its worth it.

Nice mate! I know all dyno'd are different but what figures did you pull? Can you upload your dyno sheet?

Not a huge difference difference in the high revs but the low to mid range is where you notice the difference so no more slow starts.
Dyno sheet doesnt do the tune justice, the difference from when i dropped the car off to when i picked it up was definently worth it.
