hi there
i have a eb xr8 its a ex police car ive noticed it has a chip pluged into the ECU. did the police package get them from the factory. or would it be a aftermarket one... does any one know what these chips do?? eg. more fuel or advanced timing... im just curious would this be giving more kw than standard or different engine characterics. any help would be appreciated.. thanks........

So this is in the bottom of the ECU? Do you have to run it on premium? Can you take a pic of it or check it for any labels/markings?

hi
yea it plugs into the bottom of the ecu. i do have to run it on ultimate or optimax otherwise it pings bad.. im not sure about the timing because it used to run at 26 deg . i recently changed tfi module and now its set at about 19 deg it still goes the same if i set timing at 26 deg it pings big time.. anyway would the chip have any thing to do with it?? 
i will take a pic in a minute and i will post it in my gallery thanks .... . . . . . .

i took a picture it didnt come out clear enough to see when i tried to upload image to gallery it said i have to delete 1 file which i did now i cant find or upload images at all. any way the bar code has been ripped off the chip i will try again later thanks...

hi
the last owner bought it from government auction with minor front end damage. so he bought a ed xr front.. than drove it from wa to syd i still have the log books it was a wa police car.. the last owner had it for about 7years ive had it for 2 years. the best ford i have owned so far. i use to have a white ed xr6. it looked almost identicle untill it got hit by a truck....... sorry for dribling on...

Look a little like the chip ive got on my car... but different, lol.
Lol, think you may have stumbled onto something interesting here... I reckon you should get along to the Sydney dyno day and run it with/without the chip.... sorry cant be of any more assistance.

I think you'll find that "chip" has been put on after the cops had it.
Let me know what catch code your EEC is. It's the four character code on the EEC label. There is also a label on the left shock tower with the same code(if it's still there). Pete. |

i will have a look at it tomorrow and let you know what code it has there is no code on the shock tower so i will take out the ecu. and take another pic . i will post up the pic and the code. THANKS

i was looking at the ecu and on the chip there is eec4v5 a1138. 1dgh on the ecu it has.. eec-1v sfi ma15 91da-12a650-ga 625m15af03 28723-512 1h14 if anybody knows what this means please let me know thanks
