After going thru the whole 69 pages of posts here and however many in the LPG section I have no answer for my query so I'll give it a shot here

I currently have an 96 EF Fairmont Ghia fitted with XR motor and 3.45 LSD factory. I am looking into putting the ol'girl on gas I just pulled from a 96 EF Futura. The futura was fitted with tickford gas and from what I understand the computer is dual fuel, removed the main comp aswell as the gas switchbox located alongside the pedal box, got every last thing out of it...:)

Can I run the Futura's computer (tickford dual fuel 4TED 94TD-12A650-ED)...stock 4L auto 3.08 diff, in the fairmont ghia with the XR motor auto and 3.45 LSD will it work and will it run rich in the petrol mode????

also has a sticker on it from ACE automotive Computer Engineering that says:
ACE-12F84A
Ford Falcon/Fairlaine/LTD EF/NF/DF

part number 94DT-12A650-EC/EF/EG

Appreciate any help on this one guys

Cheers Kev

lookd like it was a "reco" ecu..

your shift points will be wrong for a start also im not sure how much you will gain on the gas maps as they are to suit the 157kw motor....and will def run crapper on the petrol maps

there was no tickford lpg option for the xr6 motor

Thanx for that gogetta I thought this might be the case looks like I'll be using the tank and some of the bits and look for new control gear for it, maybe gas injection if I can get it for the right price

Unless I can get the comp flashed with new maps..???

Cheers Kev

you can still use the system as is just keep the xr6 ecu..

but if its a performance gas system then there are better ways to go than factory lpg

yeah true with performance. so I can still use the tickford LPG system and just run the Fairmonts ECU and it will still work OK?

the 3 wires that I have to add to the ECU plug just the same as before?

Kev

you will get better performance with the futura lpg ecu (LPG will be the main fuel anyway) as that will have the map for the different advance curves etc (cant advance the dizzy can you?) and it will help you get some of the performance back due to the mixer ring. remember Tickford changed the ECU for a reason. The added benefit is also your injectors get shut off when on lpg as well

A downside to that is that you get no consumption readings on the trip computer.

Should do.

Fuel select, LPG lock off, petrol lockoff, no need to add them.
You'll need to run the LPG lockoff to an alternate source though (0v-on, 12v-off) - normally you could go to the changeover switch, but IIRC the Tickford switch is a momentary setup.
I don't think your setup has a petrol lockoff - EFII/EL's did though, just check your setup to see if that's the case.

DTE will work still if you use the Fuel gauge tho

If you use the full setup and wire it in that wont be a problem would it?

No, it won't work. The petrol side will still work correctly through the trip computer.

The system came off a 96 ef 2 so using the three wires to the ecu should work ok then..??

not fazed about the trip computer side of things never really use it anyway and with using the tickford gas loom I should still get a gas guage reading on the clusters fuel guage correct?

Thanx for the replies so far guys

Kev

funny you say that.... it works on mine?????

DTE works of the fuel guage itself, dont know why it just does

I thought we're talking EF's in this thread???

I'm not sure when, but the later Tickford LPG setup's (perhaps AU), were modified to allow the trip computer to display consumption figures when on LPG.
The TC will give consumption figures in systems running LPG, if they're still running a petrol ECU, e.g. Impco, etc, because the injector pulse is still present. The Tickford LPG computer in E series vehicles shuts down injector pulse whilst on LPG.

that may be true as just remembered that mine shows when on lpg on the cluster itself, when I first start the car and when dte goes under 80kms.

starts beeping and flashes dte 80 then LPG.
