Wrong! You will lose spark/fuel cut for the speed limiter. You will NOT lose spark/fuel cut for rev limiter. You just have to know a bit more about the Megasquirt instead of assuming that it can't do all the Motec does because it's 95% cheaper.

I find it this thread MOST amusing since I left it. I still read it all. Sometimes it's the only thing that keeps me sane!

Pretty sure you misread that one uncle. Key word to note is smartlock. I am not sure how familiar you are with this system, but it will not let EEC-V fire a spark or squirt an injector until the immobiliser has been disabled (legitimately or otherwise). Has nothing to do with rev limiters. I am 100% positive that MS (or motec for that matter) have any system for immobilising via spark/fuel.

Good to see you're staying in touch with the thread. It's a monster.

Come back uncle, and set straight the MS rumors and mis-truths going around :)

I've read that the edis can't handle the rev limiter cut when using msns or similar so you only get fuel cut. I'd ideally like to be able to raise my rev limit 500rpm or so but if you're saying you don't loose the EECV rev limit then that might go out the window... ?

No, not what he was saying. EEC will have no impact on the rev limiter if MS is controlling fuel and spark. I believe what uncle was saying is that MS can replicate the EEC-V limiter(s).

And yeah - i remember reading that spark cut doesnt work on EDIS. Fuel cut will work fine.

Whoa.. confusion central.

My post regarding MS not being able to do Spark/Fuel cut was of course to do with Smartlock integration, I didnt say a word about Rev/Speed limiter :)

I dont think there's any after market ECU which cant do fuel/spark cut! lol

and yes you will be able to change your rev limiter as someone said because ms will be controling fuel and spark eecv will only be there for minor things like smartlock and airbags and clock and odometer and other s**t

EEC isnt required for Smartlock, Airbags, Clock or Odometer.

It is required for Trip Computer and Climate Control only, assuming you can switch the BBM, run thermo's and pass A/C clutch requests through the MS.

I have a question... well actually about surface mounted components... what kind of equipment is required to solder these? I can solder normally, but never tried SMC before.

Cheers

And also has anyone got a map yet for the V8 if so I'd love a copy to save a bit of f@rt about.. hehehe.

So... if you want to completely remove your EEC use an EB/D Climate Control module, and EB/D Trip Computer. The EB/D Series stuff uses an injctor pulse-width to work out Mileage, and uses a seperate sensor of its own to work out ECU Temp so it doesnt need the EEC.

If you can solder through hole then you'll have no probs with SMT.
I do SMT work for a job and you can do it with a normal iron small tip is helpfull and the thinest solder you can find (0.5mm is good) and to make life real easy use some flux http://www1.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=NS3035&CATID=&keywords=flux&SPECIAL=&form=KEYWORD&ProdCodeOnly=&Keyword1=&Keyword2=&pageNumber=&priceMin=&priceMax=&SUBCATID=
I'm lucky I work for an Electronics Manuf, and I have access to water soluble fluxes and solder so after soldering everything in you just stick it under the tap and give it a wash and blow dry with comp air. hehehe
