I've recently become the proud owner of an EF fairmont and I'm looking to modify the engine bay, now I'm no mech wiz by any stretch of the imagination and I'm not sure whether or not i am able to remove the stock filter box and replace it with a cone filter. As far as i know the Air intake sensor for the ECU chip is in the filter box and i would need to buy a full filter kit inclusive of a pipe with an inbuilt sensor. Could this work or should I consult a dealer or what?

I've never heard of an air intake sensor on the Air box..... and have never seen it.

If you want to do the pod filter mod to your EF:
documents.php?d=84

I remember reading that there were sensors under the airbox for something to do with climate control.

if t is just a regaular petrol powered ef fairmont.. their should be no sensor.. just as long as whatever cone you replace the filter with.. is boxed in as exposed fitlers are frowned apon by cops..

Its a standard petrol Fairmont, it has a sensor that sends data to the ECU chip concerning the needed air/fuel ratio

it dont quite make sense.. if it has an extra sensor concerning air fuel ratio?.
there is already a air charge sensor in the manifold std that sends info to the ecu..
unless its one of those silly ebay controlable chip boxes that alters the aircharge signal?
the only thing i can think of is a air intake temp guage sensor..

post a pic so we can see what it is??

It is only illegal if it is exposed. If you have the pod in the airbox you will be all sweet.

I'll post a pic when it gets back from the body shop, getting a BA typhoon body kit on and a custom hood.
