it has been done plenty of times, even into older cars. will need ecu and a pin added to the loom for the vct. the other part of using the ecu is for the manual.

the engine will go straight it otherwise.

the easiest way to do it would be just go buy a jaycar frequency switch and tuned it to 3000rpm and use that to change the cam timing, and just use plug the ecu in for you gearbox only if you do the manual conversion.

yea i will be doing the manual conversion is it easier to do that or get a auto electrician to rig it up for me? or possibly swap the whole wiring harness for the ecu and engine or is that the only way? also can the car be driven before thats done (to an auto alectrician)?

just use the jaycar switch, im using that when i have another go at putting the vct head on.
(buggered up cam timing last time, now have new motor, got the vct head reco'd and ported)
a mech is putting the head on this time.
the switch is only $40 and will work out so much cheaper for the same job.

on second thought you will need a manual s1 ecu as s1 use smartlock where series 2 and 3 use smart sheild

ah that was my next question so without a s1 manual ecu theres no way to rig it up and will the s1 manual ecu work alright with the vct engine and gearbox that i have?

Although he can use the resistor trick I believe.
possibly strip the shell and completely transfer everything over cluster looms locks etc. be the best solution, hang on.

not a fan of the resistor trick, if your gonna do a job do it properly, best thing to do is get a s1 manual ecu or get yours flashed to a manual.

ford can do it but expect to pay $$$

how much would i be looking at because the au1 manual ecu's seem to be very rare can an auto electrician or tuner place flash it to manual?

hey mate I may know of somebody interested in doing a trade for a s1 ecu for yours.
I sold him a vct/manual conversion out of a s1 but he has a s2

hmm what about a whole frond end swap, engine, all electrics, dash, ignition door lock, boot lock would that work or is getting a s1 au manual ecu the better option?
