Ok guys, Ive seen this one done a few times in various ways. Ive seen some BA donks being sold on Fee-Bay for $330. for 187kw or whatever it is, this is rather enticing to me to say the least. What I want to know, is will the BA motor run if I pull the Coil trigger out and drop a dizzy down the hole, and bolt up my already fitted EL BBM, and get one of those fancy J3 chippy things to compensate for the different mapping characteristics? Im thinking this may work, but be a bit of a b**ch to tune. Would be really nice with a manual box behind it.

Got a rough idea what parts are necesary for a transplant? Will probably have to look at an aftermarket computer to run the sucker i guess just for starters.

Nope, need to use the Factory PCM to run it due to the Dual Variable Cams.

Have a look in my build thread. I am installing the DOHC into my EB Wagon.

Cheers

you can cheat and run an aftermarket ecu, just leave the duel vct dissabled and fit adjustable vernea gears...

Is VCT standard on these motors? What was stopping the old 4 speed bolting up behind the Barra motor and also, is there much of a difference in length as in do the protrude further toward the radiator than the old 4.0s?

have you tried doing a search?

All this info is around. The motor is only taller. VCT is standard. Aftermarket ECU's are s**t option for these motors.

Yep have done a search, and have found some useful threads too. Problem I am having is that there are alot of photos but no explanations of whats going on. I had the same issue when I did the BBM conversion and thats why I did the step by step install doco. I have been told by others that you need the BA dash and all the wiring associated, obviously the BA computer, which I have noticed doesnt reside where it does in an E series, Im assuming its that big silver thing in the engine bay on the passenger shock tower... What I want to do is keep my dash, my old 4 speed slushbox, and as many other EB bits as possible, but get that Barra motor in and running. Up here in cairns its a bit difficult getting a complete donor car on my budget locally. I scored big time with the EL donor as I got that for free plus price of trailer hire. Any help would be apopreciated.

i think the easiest option is to use the ba dash and all the looms etc the less changes you need to make the better, you can get a cheap ba up your way for around the same price as buying all the stuff seperate, if you have a donor car you can swap everything over with a few small mods, the biggest hurdle is the dash if you fit that up the rest is strait forward. a big plus with the donor car is that you can see where everything goes and how it all mounts up.
if you decide to go the full swap option ill be happy to help you with any questions

Cheers
Jesse
