Hello Everyone,

Bad situation...

I have a EB CPI engine and it's on it's way out. It's dropping fluid everywhere and maintaining it is costing way too much. I'm looking at putting an EF/EL engine in it, but wandering about costs and time.

Can it be done?

I'm thinking about going to a wrecker and buying one of these engines, but I am not mechanically minded, so I would also be paying to put one in.

What will be the cost involved? As in the a Engine around the 100k km range and also the other stuff like ECU and paying the mechanic, also does anyone know someone who can help me out.....

Can't afford a new car, really can't be stuffed fixing this engine

Thank-you for listing to my life story........

cost will depend if you keep the CPI. if you do it's as simple a engine out engine in. bolt every thing back on. 5 or 6 hours laybour .

Sorry about my ignorance.

What do you mean by 'put ya cpi onto it'..........

Do you mean hook the old CPI ECU up to the newer EF/EL engine?

basicly just change the long motor. and leave all the cpi manifolds on the car.

I was hoping to get away with it being under $2k......

When I say new car, I mean an Actual new car, this is only something until I can get all the cash together so I am not one of those 21 year old kids with a $20k loan..........

Thanks to everyone though because I have no idea on this sort of thing....Im looking for guidance :D

For 2K, why not look at an AU XR6 motor ?

If you hunt around, this could be a viable option...

Just go and see/speak to your local mechanic and ask them what the best option is, they may have some contacts at a reco joint or something
If you want a little extra preformance go and talk to the JMM or someone like that and get the motor and the preformance mods all done at once.
For $2K you'll get it done easy
A mate of mine purchased a motor with manifold, transmission, loom, cpu the lot out of a 97 EL Fairmont wth 150,000kms on it for $960 and had it all fitted for under $500.
If your tran is good and you want to keep your manifold you will easily get away with it for under $1000.00
