I got this 'Intermittant' Problem with my car.
As I'm driving along, it will just cut out, and if out of gear, stall. I lose all the lights on the dash that indicate the car has stalled, but when my headlights are on, the chime and light on the dash come on.

I've been over all the fuses, pulled the BEM out, checked the solder joints, checked some relays, checked the fuel pump, and a few other things.

This has happened 3 or 4 times over the past 2 weeks or so, but only lasts for a maximum of 5 seconds, then it'll crank over and keep going.

I initially thought smartlock could have been the problem, but i'd like to hear ideas so i don't go ripping my car to pieces and spend money replacing things that won't need it.

tfi module on the dizzy.

thats interesting! You would be buggered to find a dizzy on a EF 8-)

It would not be smartlock. Smartlock won't cause a car to stall.

Whats your fuel pressure like? I know you tested your fuel pump, but the pump may still only be working Intermittantly.

Do you know if its a spark or fuel related issue?

If the chimes come on then the BEM thinks that you have turned the key off
I would check the electrical connections on the barrell and if possilbe swap in a known working BEM

the chimes are controlled by the cluster not BEM :)

and i think we have established that this is not a smartlock / BEM issue

That's wierd, i know for a fact on auto EF's and EL's the economy light will flash on and off if the auto box is overheating.

Since you don't have an auto, stuffs me. But it's got to be ignition to cut out like that, if it was fuel it would statter abit before dieing in the a***.

i'm 99% sure mine's smartlock related - the ECON light, smartlock light would both come on (not flashing), tacho drops to 0 RPM when car cuts out - even though you are doing 80-90km/h down the highway, still in gear! but as i said, excluding the other night it hasn't done it for a good couple of months. i'm guessing the new suspension causes a few more vibrations to get through to the BEM!

do a diagnostics check, it should have logged any anomolies when the car was acting strange and tell you.

The fuel pump if letting go would slowly die as if it was stuttering.
I'm pretty sure it's got no spark, but what is causing the loss of ignition has got me stumped.

Yeh it chimes to let me know my lights are on which is why i think it's completely losing ignition, as it's controlled by the barrel. I still don't think it's BEM related, as you can disconnect it while running and it will continue to run.

Having this intermittanly fail is frustrating when you're trying to eliminate things. Thanks for the help guys, keep it coming.
