I'm sure this has been asked b4 and i sorry for that but i need to know. I've got an 98 EL Fairmont and its done 180,000+kms, i was wondering if its worth spending money on performance. I was thinking of getting a Dev 3 kit from Jim mock which is around the $3000 mark and is supposed to give you 140rwkw, but a friend told me because my car has done so many kms it wouldn't be worth it and i wouldn't get that kind of power out of it. Any thoughts? Also a family friend will be sellin his V8 04 BA Fairmont Ghia for around $20k, although i could afford it i'd rather save my money for a house, so should i get the BA or spend the $$ on th EL.

does the stage 3 include a rebuild of the engine?

i would suggest this just to keep it reliable, i did this at 186000km and i found out the headgasket only had 2mm before it would have started leaking. its always better to just check things or u will spend more in the long run. trust me i know

20k is pretty cheap for an 04 V8 Fairmont Ghia though and they are very very nice....

your not seriously asking people on the internet for financial advice regarding a house now are you?

and does km's on an engine matter if your going to rebuild it?

180k is not that much mate, mine has done 225k!

Why even bother replying mate? and he never said he was looking at rebuilding either.

mine 320k and making that power if not a tad more.

but you could get problems with things like the auto crapping out on you and headgasket going, from more power harder driving.

but then again a 04 fairmont ghia would be very nice

vote car, you can live in a cardboard box but you cant live without a car :)

km mean nothing, ive seen an ef with 130,xxxkm that runs like s**t, gets beatn by corallas, and i no a guy with a el done 330,xxxkm thats runs almost perfect.
it all comes down to how the motor was treated and wether it was servecd properly or not.
get the dev3 if worst goes to worst put a new engine in, these days e-series motors go for nothing.
ps: ild be more worried about the tranny then the engine if i were you

Not a rebuild, the car runs pretty well, it has a new rubber seal between the head and block, so I'm assuming the head gasket behind that may have been done at some point.

I've been doing some homework with WADE and they did mention this, and also not to go any bigger cam than this.

A JMM kit is a top end rebuild.
