ok guys just a small question. i blew a gasket (cylinder 6) and just got an 3layer metal gasket, i was told by the store that it doesnt need any sort of gasket glue, ive done a few head gaskets on other cars before but this is the first for the EF and this is the first time ive used a metal gasket so im not too sure about it. should i just clean the head and use some glue anyway to make sure its got a good seal or so u just clean it up and put it right on???

any help will be good :D

Give the block and head a good clean to remove all dirt and grime. As far as I am concerned, no need for any type of gasket maker or glue. Some have use Hylomar on the gasket for a better seal, but I haven't heard anyone having issues without any extra glue...I haven't had any after 2 years.

I think gasket maker would be bad for it due to the fact the head moves around quite a bit being alloy it expands alot faster than the block. Might cause issues, run with gasket only, just be sure both surfaces are clean as phongus said.

the surfaced? you have to send it out to someone so they can check that the head is straight, it is not straight they skim the head to make it true.

I would have assumed OP may have already done this.

gasket glue is basicly personal opinion, if you feel that it needs some then use hylomar on both sides of the gasket and clean the block and the head, if not then just clean the block and the head as well as possible and put the head on.

I would spray it with ACL Hylomar.
Clean the block very well too. The pic of my engine, isn't a new/reco engine, just cleaned.
If you think you can eat off it, it's clean.
Use brake cleaner or thinner to wipe the head and block to clean it before fitting.

hey that looks realy good! im thinking, while i have the head off and etc im thinking it would be a good time to clean the block up and spray it with some engine paint.

and just another questing for you all. ive noticed that the water gallerias on the right side (intake side) are blocked off by the head gasket and only the exhaust side is going through to the head. it was the same with the original one too. is this normal???

My guess is for the direction of coolant flow, cylinder block to the head.
