Im thinking now im gonna take the head off. Put my timing gear into a level head, and put it back together with new intake and exhaust gaskets. Don't think ill go new lifters or springs. As soon as im on my blacks she's getting a v8.
Krisisdog got the valves in it?

If its only getting the head swapped a VRS kit is a waste.
For the extra $150 odd over the MLS gasket alone for a generic VRS kit with a craddy gasket its definitely not worth it.
Try finding a VRS gasket kit with a MLS gasket from anywhere but Ford ($350+)

Hylomar is a debatable issue, but if there are multiple turbocharged high hp E series Falcon owners who suggest to use it, I'm going to side with them.
That and I've never had an issue with using it, and I've done a few heads now.
MLS gaskets dont have any sealants on the surface, which is where the Hylomar is sprayed. MLS gaskets need much better head and block surfaces over the std gasket type as they do not compress and 'soak up' any imperfections.

Hylomar isn't really necessary for N/A...I mean it won't hurt to put on but it isn't necessary. Also I didn't find any coating on MLS from Ford...it was a bit oily, but that's probably from the cutting press or whatever they use to cut it.

Yeh still has valves and springs just no cam and rockers.
I will agree that hylomar isnt 100% necessary, but if you can why not? Its under 20bux a can.

Sweet man. Will be in touch.
Got some work to do tomorro, leaking coolant from bottom of radiator. Either hose or plug couldn't tell and couldn't be assed taking the plastic guard.
And now what sounded to me to be chain rattle from the front rockercover area, pulled the rockercover off, chains tight, rocker arms no cracks, springs fine.
Onlything was with the timing cog had a corner off one tooth and a small amont of metal filings..

AND the s**t topgun leads left the metal conecter tubes on the plug. Bah.

I've not seen one set do that yet. Seen many Bosch leads fail like that tho.

Cheers

I've had good runs from Topgun & ICE leads, not so good with champion, bosch, and a couple of other brands I have tried.

We get very few warranty claims on TopGuns thru work, a couple here & there on champion lead sets, and so many mechanics bagging out Bosch leads, along with a couple of other brands.

Cheers

Bosch leads work well...but once you start pulling them on and off a couple of times they keep breaking...well for me anyway. Oh wells...I was glad to have paid the extra $10 for TopGuns over the Bosch (I think the guy scanned it wrong) :D

it happened to 4 out of 6 yesterday....
Is it ok just to stuff the tube back in the lead?

Also, with the chain noise. Any ideas?
I am due for an oil change so that might be making her a little noisy

They are crimped on, if you can move the spark plug boot you might be able to crimp it back on, if it works or not depends on if you break the conductor core trying to do this.

As for the chain noise, what's the hydraulic pensioner like? Otherwise a guide might be warn. These engines are starting to get a bit old.

Cheer

I ordered some the other day for a dude thru work, they are available. Not exactly cheap, but how often do you replace them? Once in a blue moon.

Cheers

Yep looked in the end of the leads and the little spring looking bits were all crushed over and I couldn't get the cover back.
Car only seems to run with a very slight miss tho.
All the plugs were fine number 2 had a small amount of oil on it.
Found the water leak. The blue silicone gasket was almost non existant. Had a spare fibre gasket anyway.
Did a oil change with a engine flush and 2l of oil. Worked sweet.
Cheaped out and bought castrol GTX 20w50, see how long it lasts.

The chain guide has a track worn in from the chain and the roller itself has about 2mm of movement end to end. Wondering if this is the usual wear.
And what is the symptoms of when an chain skips a tooth?
