Hey , might be leading you up the garden path but i figured i would add my 2 cents. Had an AU XR6 (Manual) in at work doing the same thing.. get a hold of a fuel pressure guage. First was ok , Second - 4000 RPM and the fuel pressure just died in the a** , then in third and every other gear it hauled a**. quite an odd problem but we replaced the fuel pump and it fixed it... something to look into maybe if your still bothered by it.

maybe not the pump then, shouldnt make a difference what gear the motor is in... although the motor is pulling and using more fuel in higher gears

mine is doing similer, it launches allright for an auto, then feels reeeaaly lagy up to about 3800rpm, then boom it hits you like a brick and 5500 comes up in about a 1.5 seconds. this is on gas. sometimes on a rolling start it seems to be surging, very wavy revs as in, it revs stops then jumps 500 rpm and repeats. has me stumped.

it has soo much go after 3800-4000 but untill then its just marshmellowy.

please help with some suggestions???.

As i said yes we changed the fuel pump and it fixed the problem.
we put a fuel pressure guage on it and put it under the wiper so we could see it thru the screen whilst driving. it indicated that in certain gears the fuel pressure droped dramatically at certain RPM points. I am not saying this is your problem and i cant explain the nature of the fault. just an in sight into what may be happening. before spending any money you want to be sure your replacing the right parts otherwise it can be a sore feeling to have forked out and still have a ride thats not right.

Eb II 5SpdWagon my problem sounds just like yours, is there any reason why a fuel pump can make u loose pressure? just wear n tear?, im defently going to try a new fuel pump coz the problem u had sounds just like mine

- Grechie

EDIT: also i noticed it doesnt do it as bad wen im low on fuel (eg fuel ligt) its real bad wen i have heaps of fuel in the car, but low fuel it does it but not as bad.... ?

my old man thinks its my fuel filter, im trying to tell him that someone has tried a new one and it still is doing it, has anyone tried a new fuel pump to see if it has fixed it like Eb II 5SpdWagon did...?

my old man also sed it could be a electrical problem somewhere?

Mine has also had the same problem for a while now and it has given me just as much s**t as it has you grechie
I have changed leads, plugs, cleaned out the injectors and the fuel line and pump, cleaned out the throttle body and the ISC valve.
I haven't looked at the crank angle sensor or I have tried the oxy sensor from what I have heard on a different thread.
The fuel pump in my car was only cleaned though when I think about, maybe it needs to be replaced.
I've had it in to 2 different mechanics a while back and they couldn't even fix the f**k problem

Maybe you've both got a cracked head?

One of you guys said it was after you blew a heater hose...Doesn't that mean that you overheated the car?

my dad's ea had all those symptoms. caused by a cracked head. bought a new head, put it on and away she went. the crack was only 3mm long near the valve. nothing else on the car was replaced.
