here you are cadud2000, i bought you a little something.

The police ecu aperently isnt necacarily unlimmited. my 94 ef is an ex cop car and it cuts out at 180 same as most other falcons do. gear changes are a little firmer and timed different tho.

XR tailshafts are very light, you can carry them with one hand easily enough. I never got around to fitting mine though, so i can't compare the weight between the two..

We had a XH xr8 ute, manual, happily went up to 220km/h, with a large shuddering noise though... not doing that again

Explained well why they are there.

I was about to say to everyone to check that out because that was bad news. IMO it should be a sticky and the first reply to a thread like this is to that link and the thread locked.

The speed limiter is part of the engine management / computer that limits the car to travelling in excess of 180km/h.

I know the EL Xr6's dont have them but the Gli ect does. Its not really sensible to be going over 180k's anyway.

in a manual you can just cut the vss wire from the ecu and no more speed limiter.. :)

auto is a bit different because the auto ecu needs to know the speed so it can change gear....

There ECU looks at the speed you are doing and in a non-tickford, when it gets to 180 it limits the amount of fuel the injectors will use which will slow you down. I think in the Tickfords like the XR's and the Ghia's it it 200 or 220.

In the log book i have for my XR (purchased in darwin) "has vibration in rear coming in at 200kmph possible uni joint or tailshaft fault. Replaced uni and inspected tailshaft"

Must of had a workout on the Stuart Highway.
