By the way, don't be put off by asking questions like this (it gives you a fair idea of your cars relativity in the real world, and there are plenty of people who are interested in these sorts of toppics) and if people don't like these sorts of questions (and yes I can understand why that would be the case) then they shouldn't post.

I mean, the thread title says it all, so if you aren't interested, why read THEN go to all the trouble of posting. Seems a bit funny to me...

I'm calling you out on that one.
How the in the hell does one random telling us his car beat some other randoms car, give anybody an idea of anything?!?!
EVERY car on here is in a different condition, every commodore out there is in a different condition too.
IF you want to know if your car can beat some other make of car, go to the strip.
Either drag the other car there, or compare timeslips.
100% legal.
99% safe.
95% f**k foolproof.

You've just answered the question you asked.

So you agree that saying 'every stock auto EF beats every stock auto VN on the strip' is worth absolutely f**k nothing?

No, and that's becuase I never actually said that....

Saying that every stock auto EF will beat every stock auto VN is s**t, as you said. However, and here's the point; a stock auto EF SHOULD be quicker down the quarter than a stock auto VN and if I, personally, had a stock EF that got done by a stock VN to 400 metres, I would be very very p****d off and wonder why my car was off-ish, then try and fix the problem.

Look, I know that strip times are the best (not to mention safest and legal) indication of what cars can do in a straight line, and in all reality is the best answer to the "will this car beat that car?" question. But not all of us have access, time, money, etc etc to do so and use these posts as an indication of what's what. You know it's never going to be 100% accurate (just like dynos are never going to be 100% accurate) but some people like to hear what others have to say on the matter and plenty of people like to throw their opinions forward.

For example my "What's a VL like?" thread was started so that I could get some sort of an idea on what they are like to drive becuase:
A) I will probably NEVER drive one in my life
B) I want to know what they are like as a result
C) I want to know how the Falc stack up against it (and it's this reason why threads like this are posted)

Yeah, sure, there are some bogans out there who are simply after bragging rights at the pub, and if that's their thing then who are we to argue. But there are also some out there who are interested to see how other cars go (it's the reason why I read Motor religiously, to dream about what it would be like to drive a Lambo or Beamer becuase I know the likelyhood of myself geting to drive one of these things is slim - zero), hence the threads.

So, Steady, when is that bloody Sprint going down the strip! I'm dying to see what she can do :D

downingj this is true here, because, to put it simply, i will never be able to afford a mclaren. i have a video of the 'worlds fastest skyline' vs a stock mclaren, and well when the mclaren has finished its run and made a coffee the skyline passes finally.

my uncles stock eb 2 auto sedan whoops the a** off vt auto stocker sedan too, which is interesting as this guy tried and tried and tried for a number of failed attempts to beat the eb with 4 people in it.

mind you the vt did do an impressive one wheeler burnout after getting the s**t hahahahaha

100% agreed. You can get 0-100 and 1/4 mile times for any car from google and you can be pretty sure that will be roughly what the cars will pull in the real world without all the subjective BS.

And then some of us are continually preaching the values of searching for commonly discussed topics before posting another similar topic.

Whilst it's no secret that i really dont like "these" threads (just take a look - more posts about the thread itself than the question at hand), im not going to close/remove them unless there is cause to do so.

However, members should take a few minutes to see if something has been covered before. My original post in this thread was the result of 10 seconds on the search page and was a pretty close match to this discussion.

Other members are also entitled to state their opinion regarding these threads. Colelctively, we try to educate on the pitfalls of such discussions with the goal of promoting more accurate/conclusive methods of comparing car A with car B. Frankly, I find these posts to be more constructive than "well, you're asking about VN vs EF but my mate killed a VS the other night in his EL"
