what would be the differnce between replacing the rear muffler with a hotdog compared to replacing the middle muffler with a hot dog? ive heard a few people opting for the middle over the rear. im unsure why this is? also what are the differences between a hotdog muffler, and hotdog resonator?

Cheers

Hotdog resonator will stop a lot of the bark, doesn't really quiet it down a whole lot. I added the middle hotdog in because it was a bit too loud in higher revs.

It does also depend on the hot dog size, obviously a larger hot dog will quieten it down more than a smaller hot dog.

i'm running no cat (beacuse it's legal here) and a catback, and its deep. i would change the rear res with a small hotdog, thinking about doing it myself.

Really? You're allowed to remove cats? What are they like on other pollution type stuff, are you allowed to remove that too? Can you get your government to convince our government?

sorry to ask again, but what would be the difference between replacing the centre muffler, compared to the rear muffler with a hot dog? different sound? or no difference between the two? some say they change the centre, some change the rear. im a bit confused by it

Did answer it properly. The only way to make it a bit deeper is to take the cat converter out all together. Its illegal though and makes it sound a bit "ricey" at low revs.

Taking the cat out WILL make it deeper. It will make it louder and resonate less (and deeper).

Corrected that for you.
No probs man, any time

simple way to make your car sound tuff, wont cost a penny and is perfectly legal, download a V8 engine sound, put it on a CD, play it so loud it over powers your engine noise

Another possibility, although legality again will be an issue (but only if you are silly with it ) are these electronic exhaust cutouts - you have it plumbed into your exhaust before the muffler and, at the touch of a button you can open / close or have it partially closed...

what was the question?? by the way you do know that trying to chase a deeper exhaust note in a 6, will probably give you a droning exhaust note, and nothing sounds worse then a drone

Quoted for truth. My ute is dumped at the moment because the exhaust has seen better days and were pressed for time doing the engine conversion last week, so we did a bogan performance racing angle grinder mod and cut the whole rear off it off 30mm after the muffler. Loved the sound of it for a while but the low rev droaning wears thin pretty quick - and im pretty tolerant to loud cars. I can make a video of it tomorrow if you want, it'll give you an idea of what it can sound like anyway with a proper setup cos it does sound nice above 3000rpm where the droaning has gone.

The new exhaust ill get will have a resonator in the middle with the muffler after the diff with a short dump pipe off the end so long as it can fit back there... otherwise ill swap it round so the resonator is at the back.
