so i've FINALLY got my hands on a BA XR6 (which i've loved since release)

I'm wanting to put/do a few mods to it just so its stands out a bit, but not being very mechanically savvy, I've not a clue where to start.
theres the obvious exhaust mod, i've heard a bit about ss growlers, noticed 'under drive pulleys' come up in a few post (not a clue what they are or do) was just reading something about getting diff ratios changed. and i was just wondering if a few of you that are more mod switched on then me could point me in the right direction.

cheers in advance

all depends on what you want from the mods and how much you want to spend. if you got the series 1 xr6 with rear manual window winders, then converting to power windows is easily done. also exhaust, lowering, tint, rims. these will start you off and you can save some coin by doing some work yourself, and learning at the same time.

im not really worried about the cosmetic side of things. more into the performance stuff. getting it to run better, more response/better fuel economy kinda stuff. its got 120k on the clock and from what i can gather its not had the best of lives to date. not terrible but not the best.

If its an auto get that serviced first.
Then look at headers and exhaust, cold air intake, new coils and a tune.
Hope this helps,

hi guys, im in the same situartion also,

i have a 2003 BA XR6, goes like a charm. i friend of mine has an 2004 BA XR6T and his looks sweet.
with mine however, i have the windows tinted almost black, the brakes painted red and the cold air intake. i have also painted the ECU cover red... looks good but would rather it be polished.

i also have plans of lowering the rear 30mm because of the rake of the car and the full exhaust system at this stage.

however my friend has just put in coilovers and that looks sick. he has replaced the rear spoiker with an aftermarket fibreglass one that also looks mad.

one thing he has told me too look at is the badges on the car, we now have both removed the badges (falcon, XR6) on both the boot and the skirts this looks cleaner then having them on.

he has also replaced the rear lights withthe BF lights. cant tell much difference untill he brakes. (LED setup).

If you want power and can't drive a turbo, you'll need to spend $$ to pull decent figures.

If auto, get the trans serviced. While you're at it get a better cooler (also negates the risk of mixing coolant with the trans oil).

Then get new diff gears with a LSD. Being a BA N/A i6, the lowest ratio you can go is 3.7:1
If you contact MalWood (google them) they can supply 4.11 or 3.9 diff gears with a shim from an older diff series to suit the BA-BF cradle.

After that, get a nice breathing intake. I recommend SS Inductions Growler, great sound, great airflow, instant throttle response increase.

2.5" Exhaust with pacemaker 4495 Comp Headers (headers will set you back $550ish). You will be looking at around $1200 total installed for a full system. Well worth the $$.

20% Underdrive pulley kit. Ebay tuffcarparts, they supply a complete kit with idle pulleys and belt for $300.

Camshafts either reground, or new billet. These will cost you a fair bit! Minimum you will fork out is a grand, and that's for regrind. Brand new billet's with valve springs (if you go that big) will be close to $2000.

If you go camshafts upgrade, you may want to go slightly larger injectors (stock are 29lbs). Probably only cost you $300 tops here.

Tie all this together with a day on the dyno to bring out full power. A dyno tune usually costs around $1500. With all that was mentioned above, you would be looking at 200rwkw easily, and if you go larger cams, you will see higher figures. Don't go too large, or the car will be a pig to drive daily, and you might not get any power gains.

i have bene looking lately at the 20% underdrive pulleys, how hard are they too install?
and how much power difference do they make?

i have the cold air intake pod flilter behind the headlamp, this makes i difference under acceleration in sound and performance but not much whilst idling.

I'd get a mechanic to do it, as you need to take the radiator out to get the harmonic balancer off the crank. They give like 7rwkw, not much but it's better than nothing. It slows down all your accessories, so more power can be transferred to the wheels.

With a 4 speed auto new diff gears and LSD is your best bang for buck.

Full exhaust, underdrives, tune next and if you have deeper pockets, cams.

DIY own intake and save a heap of money. There are a few threads on it.

Does LSD give a better take Off? Than single spin?

AFAIU, LSD provides more even power to both tyres. So that in theory would give a better launch
