Hi all,
I have a BA XT. Good condition. I service it myself and it has all the essentials. New engine, auto, diff oils, new plugs, new air and oil filter etc. I drive the car to work mostly on the highway. It spends about 85% of its time at 100kph with cruise control on. The car gets about 8lt/100kph on 91 octane which I am happy with but if I can improve it Id like to. The fuel bill quickly adds up! I was thinking about an XR6T intake scoop. I had a look at dads on his BF and its much bigger than mine. Will that improve the economy at all the way I drive the car? I like the quietness of the car but what about a 'quiet' free flowing exhauts for a bit more flow? would it improve the econmy enough to justift the cost of a cat back? thanks

thanks for the replies. wasnt unhappy with the economy just thought if i could improve it for a small cost i would otherwise ill leave it alone. maybe ill try find one of those xr6t cai for a cheap price

it will give you 2 cents of f**k all extra economy. what your getting at the moment is quite amazing.

removing your interior and sitting on a mik crate will improve economy.
But yeah, as stated before, you will need to look at either a different size car or alternative fuel options to do any better than you are now. Turbo Desiel conversion, then run it on chip fat from your local take out shop. Once converted, you won't get any better then free fuel. Cholesterol Free that is!

It doesn't get any better than 8 lt/100km in a falcon. I wouldn't do anything to it other than tyre pressures. On the highway, I'm lucky to get 10lt/100km on petrol and 13lt/100km on lpg in my EF auto wagon.
There's always trade offs with modifications and you might loose some of your quiet cruising if you start going for zorsts and air intakes. Also, you won't get back any of what you spend at resale time.

i changed to a full synthetic oil and i gotta bonus of about 0.5L-0.8L/100km better fuel economy
thats about all i can suggest ... best ever the other day 66L for 670kms |

You drive yours like a 19yo, comaguta drives like a 34yo.  Seriously, It'll be entirely down to driving style and routes taken. e.g. 100% highway (cruising) mileage is going to be better than 100% city (stop/start) mileage. I'd be ecstatic to get 400km from a tank, but then I'd hate driving slow.

If you want to loose all respect but who cares u will have the money from all the fuel u will save get a ford fiesta econetic (3.7L/100KM)
i dont know about highway fuel on my NF but i do know it currently can get 600KM's to a tank in town

68L gets me 700-720k every week. cant wait to see what i can get on the highway.

Travelling for 20 kilometres too and from work on a toll road at 80 kph without stopping? You are already on a highway!! If on the other hand you are getting that sort of mileage from stop/start, bumper to bumper urban roads or similar.....? Well then, I have no option than to suggest your odometer is at least 50% out, or the truth is being bent slightly!! haha
